Responsible for supervising the effective delivery of services to residents in the assigned housing unit(s) and to ensure that the overall unit is maintained in a safe, secure, and human manner. Develop comprehensive release plans for residents who are within one year of release. Involves evaluating risk factors in order to make decisions regarding the facility/cell or work assignments.
- Assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of unit team staff comprised of uniformed and non-uniformed staff assigned to the living unit, which includes, but not limited to: Athena, chronological entries, Offender Management System (OMIS) data entry, incentive level, visiting applications, good time award, use of the LSI-R, custody classification, resident reviews, transfer requests, and program assignment.

Reviews Reentry Plans submitted by counselors to ensure that each plan addresses criminogenic need areas. Ensures that risk reduction, reentry, case management and release planning efforts are coordinated and that the release planning is incorporated into all aspects of case management. In addition, oversees the quality and content of release planning efforts.

Demonstrates knowledge of evidenced-based practices in corrections and proficiency in risk reduction skills including motivational interviewing and cognitive strategies. Provides assistance, direction and case management guidance to unit team counselors and serves as a role model in the use of risk reduction and risk containment techniques.

Performs daily inspections of the living unit to ensure all posts are properly staffed, overall security, maintenance, and cleanliness is maintained.
Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences or the behavioral sciences, and two years of experience working with residents in corrections, parole, or law enforcement. Additional experience may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency.
Approved substitutions:
Completion of 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, including 12 hours in corrections, criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and two (2) years of experience in the field of adult/juvenile corrections or case management in social services.
Completion of 30 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, including six (6) hours of corrections, criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and three (3) years' experience in the field of adult/juvenile corrections or case management in social services; or
High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience in the field of adult/juvenile corrections or case management in social services.
Driver's License
Independent work experience in corrections, counseling/case management. 60 semester college credit hours with 12 hours in corrections or related field and five years in corrections; or a four-year degree in corrections or related field and three years' work in corrections.
Must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services unless the incumbent is moving from one safety-sensitive position to another safety-sensitive position within the same agency performing substantially similar duties. Will be required to pass a background check.
