As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Controller / Director of Finance to become a key member of our leadership team and help strengthen the financial foundation of the company.
Position Overview - This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the company's accounting, bookkeeping, financial reporting, job costing, inventory controls, cash flow management, and financial systems.
The ideal candidate understands both accounting and manufacturing operations. They are comfortable handling day-to-day accounting responsibilities while also providing leadership-level financial reporting and operational insights.
This position will work directly with the CEO and leadership team and will play a significant role in helping the company scale efficiently and profitably.
The successful candidate will help ensure that financial information, production data, inventory tracking, purchasing, and operational reporting are accurate, reliable, and useful for decision-making.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Accounting & Bookkeeping
This role is responsible for maintaining the company's books and ensuring all financial records are accurate and up to date.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing day-to-day accounting operations
- Maintaining accurate financial records
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- General ledger maintenance
- Journal entries and account reconciliations
- Month-end and year-end closing processes
- Coordination with external CPA and tax professionals accurate financial statements
This is not a position where bookkeeping is outsourced. We are looking for someone who is comfortable owning and managing the accounting function internally.
Manufacturing Accounting & Job Costing
- Develop and maintain accurate job costing systems
- Track labor, materials, freight, subcontractors, and overhead costs
- Analyze profitability by product line, invoice, and production unit
- Monitor manufacturing costs and identify opportunities for improvement
- Improve visibility into gross margins and production profitability
- Develop meaningful manufacturing KPIs and reporting
Inventory & Production Controls
- Manage inventory accounting and inventory valuation
- Oversee raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods reporting
- Develop inventory control procedures and cycle count processes
- Monitor purchasing trends and material consumption
- Identify inventory discrepancies and process improvements
- Improve visibility into inventory turnover and inventory performance
Financial Reporting & Cash Flow
- Prepare monthly financial statements
- Develop budgets and forecasts
- Create cash flow forecasts and working capital reports
- Monitor company performance against financial targets
- Prepare management reporting packages
- Support banking and financing relationships
Systems & Reporting
Modular Manufacturing has invested heavily in proprietary software, operational workflows, production tracking systems, and reporting tools specifically designed for the modular manufacturing industry.
We are not looking for someone to replace these systems.
We are looking for someone who can help strengthen, improve, and expand them.
Responsibilities include:
- Working closely with leadership to improve financial reporting and business intelligence
- Assisting with the continued development of company software and reporting capabilities
- Helping ensure accounting, purchasing, inventory, production, and operational data flow accurately throughout company systems
- Identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement
- Developing meaningful KPIs and dashboards for leadership
- Supporting future ERP and software enhancements
- Helping create scalable financial infrastructure capable of supporting future growth and expansion
Strategic Support
- Provide financial analysis to support business decisions
- Assist with growth initiatives and expansion planning
- Support future acquisitions and strategic projects
- Help leadership understand financial performance and operational trends
- Serve as a trusted financial resource for the organization
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of accounting experience
- Minimum 1 years of manufacturing accounting experience
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping and financial statement preparation
- Strong understanding of manufacturing job costing
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting and inventory controls
- Experience managing month-end close processes
- Experience with accounting systems and ERP software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred
- CPA or CMA designation
- Experience in manufacturing, modular construction, industrial, fabrication, or related industries
- Experience working in growth-oriented companies
- Experience supporting operational reporting and KPI development
- Experience with manufacturing ERP systems
Work Arrangement
This position is intended to be an in-house role based in Springfield, Missouri. Limited remote work flexibility may be available after onboarding and once responsibilities are fully understood; however, we believe this position is most effective when working closely with leadership and operations on-site.
We are not seeking part-time bookkeeping firms, outsourced accounting providers, or fractional accounting services.
We are looking for an individual who will become an integral part of our team and organization.
