Requirements: 2+ years of Heavy Civil construction experience on DOT, Sitework and/or Underground Utility projects.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a proactive Project Engineer - Civil to support planning, design, and construction for municipal and private infrastructure projects. The role focuses on delivering water, sewer, stormwater, and site development projects to schedule, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and DOT requirements. The Project Engineer will coordinate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to produce construction documents, manage permitting and approvals, and provide field engineering support during construction.
Key Responsibilities:

Manage day-to-day technical and administrative aspects of civil infrastructure projects (water, sewer, stormwater, and site development) from design through construction closeout.

Prepare and review design calculations, plans, specifications, and cost estimates; ensure deliverables meet contract and regulatory requirements.

Coordinate with clients, municipalities, state DOTs, and regulatory agencies to obtain permits and approvals; prepare permit applications and supporting documentation.

Support construction phase services including submittal review, Requests for Information (RFIs), shop drawing review, change order evaluation, and progress reporting.

Perform field visits and construction observation to verify contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable standards; document site conditions and prepare field reports.

Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and scopes of work; track project performance and propose corrective actions when necessary.

Use Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or similar software to produce and revise engineering drawings; collaborate with drafters and BIM staff to finalize construction documents.

Implement quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures for design and construction deliverables.

Coordinate and supervise subcontractors and technical staff as needed; mentor junior engineers and support staff.

Communicate project status, technical issues, and solutions clearly to clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

Ensure compliance with DOT standards, local codes, and best practices for stormwater management and erosion control.
Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Masters degree or relevant advanced coursework preferred.

2+ years of civil engineering experience with a focus on water, sewer, stormwater, and site development projects; experience in construction engineering or on-site construction support is highly valued.

Familiarity with state DOT standards, permitting processes, and local municipal requirements for public works projects.

Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project), and experience with project management software.

Strong understanding of stormwater best management practices (BMPs), erosion and sediment control, and sewer/water utility design.

Demonstrated ability to prepare design calculations, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.

Experience reviewing contractor submittals, managing RFIs, and administering change orders during construction.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams and external agencies.

Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites for field inspections; OSHA 10 or 30-hour training considered a plus.
