In 2026, DSF Advisors acquired Zelitsky & Company, significantly expanding its existing tax practice and service capabilities. Zelitsky & Company is a Bergen County-based CPA firm specializing in tax, accounting, bookkeeping, business consulting, and tax planning services. The firm has built a strong reputation for providing personalized financial guidance and tax preparation services to medical groups, real estate businesses, and professional service firms. The acquisition strengthens DSF’s ability to deliver comprehensive tax and advisory solutions to a broader client base while enhancing its presence in the New York metropolitan market.
Role Description
We are seeking an experienced, client-focused, and detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing tax practice. This role will be responsible for preparing federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and nonprofit organizations, while also reviewing client bookkeeping records and financial information to ensure accurate tax reporting.
The Senior Tax Accountant will work directly with clients to gather information, address tax-related questions, resolve notices, and provide a high level of client service throughout the year. The position also involves identifying tax issues, performing tax research, assisting with tax planning projects, and collaborating with firm leadership to deliver practical solutions to closely held businesses, investment entities, and high-net-worth individuals.
The ideal candidate has strong technical tax preparation skills, solid accounting knowledge, excellent communication abilities, and experience working in a public accounting environment. This individual should be comfortable managing multiple client engagements, meeting deadlines, and working both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced and growing firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120, 1041, and exempt organization returns, ensuring accuracy and timely filing.
- Gather, analyze, and organize client tax information and supporting documentation.
- Review bookkeeping records, financial statements, general ledgers, and trial balances to ensure accuracy and tax readiness.
- Prepare year-end adjusting journal entries and reconcile tax-related accounts as needed.
- Communicate directly with clients regarding tax return preparation, missing information, tax notices, and routine tax planning opportunities.
- Review K-1s, shareholder and partner basis schedules, capital accounts, and related tax workpapers.
- Assist clients with tax compliance matters, including estimated tax payments, extensions, and state filing requirements.
- Research tax issues and apply federal and state tax regulations to client situations.
- Assist with responses to IRS and state tax notices and support clients during tax examinations.
- Coordinate with bookkeeping and accounting teams to ensure complete and accurate financial information is available for tax compliance.
- Maintain organized tax files, workpapers, and client documentation in accordance with firm standards.
- Support tax managers and partners with tax planning projects, special engagements, and client advisory services.
- Train and mentor junior staff and review work prepared by less experienced team members as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field.
- 3–6 years of public accounting tax experience preparing individual, partnership, S corporation, and corporate tax returns.
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax compliance for closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
- Experience reviewing bookkeeping records and financial statements for tax preparation purposes.
- Ability to identify accounting and tax issues and propose practical solutions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and client service skills, with the ability to interact professionally with business owners and individual clients.
- Proficiency with tax software, Microsoft Excel, and accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members in a remote or hybrid environment.
Preferred Experience
- Active CPA or Enrolled Agent License preferred but not required
- Prior experience in a small or mid-sized CPA firm
- Fluency in Spanish a Plus
- Proficiency with tax software such as UltraTax, Lacerte, ProSeries, or ProSystem FX

The pay rate is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay for the role. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experiences, skills and seniority. The range may be modified in the future.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
