Summary of Purpose:
Responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining all official City social media accounts and digital communications platforms. Coordinates closely with the Mayor and other City officials to create, publish, and monitor public communications, City announcements, emergency notifications, and event updates. Develops, implements and maintains the City’s website, including creating and managing website design and content, organization, quality assurance and usability. Coordinates and oversees the City’s standards for print and electronic communication from creative concept and electronic design production to final print or web-based products. Performs duties assigned by the Mayor.
Duties (Essential Functions):
- Manages and maintains all City social media accounts and online presence. Creates and posts content related to city programs, events, initiatives, and public announcements.
- Works directly with the Mayor and other City officials to communicate important emergency notifications and urgent public information updates.
- Monitors public engagement and responds to inquiries when appropriate.
- Ensures all communications are timely, accurate, and aligned with City policies and messaging.
- Performs content management activities to generate new content and maintain existing content on the City’s website; leads the planning and implementation of web content and design; designs and implements the websites information architecture insuring ease of navigation for users and user-friendliness; identifies, indexes, and makes available knowledge resources.
- Oversees the visual design of the City’s website; serves as art director for visual and multimedia content; designs and manages the creative aspect of web projects, including serving as an expert resource to staff involved in specific projects.
- Coordinates and oversees the development, design, and preparation of City-wide print and electronic communications, intranet and internet websites and newsletter.
- Works with Information Technology Consultants to implement and maintain proper security for web applications and on the implementation of new technology related to the web.
- Provides consulting services to staff on the design and preparation of City-wide and department level print and electronic communications; determines project objectives, gathers information and develops design graphics and specifications; serves as a resource to Department Directors.
- Researches and prepares recommendations and coordinates the implementation of standards for City-wide graphic and copy styles for both internally and externally produced print material and website content and design; ensures that quality standards are met.
- Prepares single and multi-colored electronic files, manages computer files; converts computerized files for different platforms; troubleshoots electronic files created using design software in order to deliver accurately functioning files for City use.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
Associate’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in communications or graphic design or a related field.
Experience:
Two years of communications or graphic design.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Principles and practices of graphic design, desktop publishing, word processing, computer graphics and website development software, as well as internet publishing.
· Knowledge of social media platforms, digital communication strategies, and public engagement practices.
· Knowledge of emergency notification procedures and public information dissemination.
· Project and/or program management, analytical processes and report preparation techniques.
· Skilled in creating, scheduling, and managing social media content across multiple platforms.
· Ability to operate computers, mobile devices, cameras, and social media management software.
· Analyze communication needs, interpret and develop ideas, conceptualize, visualize, and develop best approaches to achieve desired results for graphic and public information projects.
· Skilled in content creation, including writing announcements, press releases, and promotional materials.
· Function as a project leader organizing, scheduling, and coordinating major communication projects, as assigned.
· Ability to work under pressure and manage communications during emergencies or time-sensitive situations.
· Ability to work directly and professionally with the Mayor, City officials, department heads, media representatives, and the public.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement in sensitive situations.
· Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities and meet critical time deadlines.
· Ability to attend City meetings, events, and activities, including evenings or weekends when required.
· Techniques for dealing effectively with and providing a high level of customer service to the public, vendors, contractors and City staff, in person and over the telephone.
· Communicate clearly and effectively; and establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with staff, community members, local agencies, and vendors, orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the City. Must have availability to work off-hours shifts or events as required; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person, over the telephone, or through written correspondence.
Additional Requirements:
Possession of a valid Kentucky Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
