Our Critical Care Advanced Practice Professionals (APPs) are located across 3 of our Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Campuses, in Winston-Salem, Lexington, and High Point, and provide expert care in a variety of intensive care settings. Lexington is a small community hospital with a 16-bed ICU and High Point, another community hospital, has a 24-bed ICU. Our Winston-Salem campus offers specialized critical care across multiple subspecialties, including Neuro ICU, Medical ICU, Medical Oncology ICU, and Cardiothoracic ICU. ***APPs will be considered for positions at all campuses and credentialed at all Critical Care locations
Responsibilities include physical assessment and management of a broad range of critical illnesses; performing and assisting with common critical care procedures to include insertion of vascular catheters for central venous access, dialysis, arterial line placement and monitoring, endotracheal intubation.
Clinical duties encompass comprehensive care of the critically ill patient starting with initial resuscitation and management, continuing with the coordination of clinical care between intensivist teams and multiple consulting teams, counseling patients and their families on the details of their illness, care and decision making process, concluding with patients/family preparation for discharge from the ICU.

Our Critical Care APPs work in collaboration with critical care attending physicians to manage patients in Specialty Intensive Care Units, and are leaders in collaboration and education, working with ICU staff from nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, and nutrition services. They also work alongside ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship training programs, offering opportunities for cooperation and shared education.
What You’ll Do:
As a valued member of our healthcare team, the PA/ACNP will play a key role in team-focused patient care, conducting thorough examinations and evaluations in medical/surgical settings. Responsibilities include:
Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
The clinician functions under the regulatory mandate from their respective licensing organization (North Carolina Medical Board or North Carolina Board of Nursing) with departmental specific credentialing from the institution.
