The Level A Technician is our most skilled builder and the technical anchor of the shop. You handle the most complex, high-stakes builds — specialty command units, surveillance vehicles, mobile medical platforms — and serve as the go-to resource for troubleshooting, quality assurance, and team development. You are not just a technician; you are a mentor, a quality gatekeeper, and a direct representative of the standard Auto Action Technologies delivers to every first responder customer.
Reports to Director of Operations – Upfitting
FLSA status Non-exempt / Hourly (OT eligible) / Commission
Pay range $28 – $36+ per / hour Inclusive of base pay + commission per install
EVT Level 2 required; EVT Level 3 or ASE Master Technician preferred
Mon – Fri, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM · Flexibility for fleet delivery deadlines
Full range of shop physical demands; occasional field service or customer site visits
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead complex, custom builds from project kickoff through quality release and customer delivery
- Serve as technical authority for electrical system design, troubleshooting, and full system integration
- Own quality assurance for the shop — inspect and sign off on Level B and C builds before release
- Design and execute custom wiring harness layouts for non-standard platforms and specialty vehicles
- Configure, program, and commission advanced multiplex and control systems
- Lead specialty vehicle conversions including mobile command, surveillance vans, and mobile medical units
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical faults, intermittent issues, and post-delivery warranty callbacks
- Collaborate with sales and project management to review customer specs and flag build riskspre-production
- Train Level B and C technicians through hands-on instruction, skill assessments, and build reviews
- Develop and maintain build documentation, wiring standards, and shop best practices
- Interface directly with customers, municipal fleet managers, and department leadership during high-profilebuilds
- Manage parts requisitions and coordinate with procurement on specialty components
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
- 7+ years of emergency vehicle upfitting or advanced automotive electrical experience
- EVT Level 2 certification required; Level 3 strongly preferred — company will support testing and fees
- Expert-level 12/24-volt electrical knowledge: power distribution, CAN bus, multiplexing, grounding systems
- Deep familiarity with all major EVT platforms: SoundOff bluePRINT, Federal Signal iCan, Whelen ION,Code 3
- Experience with specialty vehicle platforms: Sprinter/Transit vans, box trucks, SUV command unit builds
- Ability to develop custom wiring diagrams and modify existing schematics for non-standard applications
- Proven ability to mentor technicians and hold the shop to a professional quality standard
- Strong communication skills — comfortable presenting completed builds and discussing specs withcustomers
- First responder background strongly preferred: firefighter, EMT, law enforcement, or dispatch experience
- Valid driver's license required; CDL a plus for delivery of completed apparatus
