Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assess patients prior to surgery (e.g. NPO status).
- Provide education and reassurance to patients and caregivers prior to surgery.
- Gather all supplies needed for the surgical procedure.
- Assume responsibility for maintaining a sterile field.
- Ensure proper positioning and preparation of the patient on the operating table.
- Adherent to safety standards and precautions set forth by AORN (accrediting body)
- Assuming duties within or out of the sterile field as assigned within the sterile field.
- Assist the surgical team with setting up rooms.
- Assess safety and functionality of equipment prior to procedures.
- Actively participate in Time Out.
- Assisting the OR team throughout the case as needed.
Job Requirements:
- A valid NYS Nursing License.
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
- Excellent knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Solid understanding of patient safety and precautions.
- In-depth knowledge of surgical operation procedures.
- Outstanding organizational ability.
- Be a team player with excellent communication skills.
- Even-tempered with emotional and physical stamina.
- At least one year of OR experience is preferred.
- Preferred experience with high-acuity orthopedic procedures.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Successful completion of ACLS course within 90 days (about 3 months) of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification.
- Successful completion of PALS course within 90 days (about 3 months) of employment or documentation of current PALS certification.
