Palm Atlantic Psychiatry is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our outpatient psychiatric practice in Jupiter, Florida. We are looking for a dependable, compassionate, and clinically strong provider who is comfortable evaluating and treating patients receiving psychiatric and mental health care.
Prior experience in psychiatry, behavioral health, or mental health is strongly preferred.
Schedule:
This position is currently anticipated to be part-time, with the potential for increased hours depending on practice needs, provider availability, and patient caseload.
Typical office schedule:
- Monday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Tuesday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Thursday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
This is an in-person position at our Jupiter, FL office. Remote telehealth work is not available for this position at this time.
Responsibilities:
The PA-C will work collaboratively with our Medical Director and clinical team to provide comprehensive outpatient psychiatric care.
Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting initial psychiatric evaluations and follow-up visits
- Assessing psychiatric symptoms, treatment response, functioning, and medication effectiveness
- Providing medication management under physician supervision
- Reviewing patient histories, current medications, treatment plans, and relevant clinical records
- Completing thorough, accurate, and timely psychiatric evaluations and progress notes
- Providing patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment recommendations, and follow-up care
- Reviewing psychological testing and screening results with patients and assisting with clinical interpretation of findings within the scope of the practice
- Explaining psychological testing findings to patients in a clear, clinically appropriate, and understandable manner
- Reviewing completed pharmacogenomic/psychotropic medication genetic testing reports that have been uploaded to the patient's chart
- Educating patients regarding the findings of their pharmacogenomic report and discussing how the results may relate to psychiatric medication selection, metabolism, response, or treatment considerations in collaboration with the supervising physician
- Communicating professionally with patients, families, pharmacies, therapists, and other members of the treatment team
- Maintaining accurate documentation within the practice's EHR/EMR system
- Managing an anticipated caseload of approximately 13–20 patient visits per day, depending on appointment type and scheduling
Qualifications:
Candidates must have:
- Current Physician Assistant certification
- Active and clear Florida Physician Assistant license
- Previous clinical experience as a Physician Assistant
- Psychiatry or mental health experience strongly preferred
- General knowledge of psychotropic medications commonly prescribed in psychiatric practice
- Ability to assess and communicate effectively with patients experiencing psychiatric and behavioral health conditions
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to work collaboratively under physician supervision
- Strong understanding of psychiatric documentation and progress-note requirements
- Familiarity with psychological assessments, behavioral health screening instruments, or interpretation of psychological testing results is preferred
- Familiarity with pharmacogenomic testing related to psychiatric medications is preferred, although practice-specific training will be provided
- Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems
- Strong computer and typing skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong and thorough clinical documentation skills
- Ability to establish positive and professional rapport with patients and families
- Ability to explain complex clinical information in language patients can understand
- Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with the supervising physician, clinical providers, and administrative team
Experience with psychotherapy, counseling, psychological assessment, or other behavioral health interventions is a plus.
Training and Transition:
The selected candidate will receive structured, practice-specific onboarding and training.
Depending on prior psychiatric experience, the Medical Director may require approximately 1–3 days of initial shadowing and training. Training may include:
- Observing psychiatric patient interviews
- Reviewing the practice's psychiatric evaluation and follow-up workflow
- Training on the EHR/EMR system
- Reviewing psychiatric documentation expectations
- Learning how to structure evaluations and progress notes consistent with the Medical Director's clinical documentation standards
- Reviewing the practice's psychological testing workflow and approach to discussing testing results with patients
- Reviewing the practice's pharmacogenomic testing workflow, including how completed reports are documented, reviewed, and explained to patients
- Reviewing medication-management, pharmacy, and patient communication workflows
Additional transition support and hands-on training will be available from our current PA-C to help facilitate a smooth transition into the role.
Compensation:
Starting compensation: $55 per hour.
Performance reviews will be conducted approximately every three months, with opportunities for compensation increases based on performance, clinical development, and continued growth within the practice.
