Position Summary
The PRN X‑Ray Technician supports a busy orthopedic practice in Tuscaloosa by performing high‑quality diagnostic imaging and providing intermittent clinical assistance during peak clinic times, staff shortages, or schedule gaps. This role is essential in delivering efficient, compassionate orthopedic patient care while upholding safety and compliance standards.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Orthopedic Diagnostic Imaging
- Perform high‑quality digital radiographs according to orthopedic protocols and provider orders.
- Ensure proper patient positioning for orthopedic‑specific exams (e.g., joints, long bones, spine).
- Follow all radiation safety standards and maintain dosimetry requirements.
- Recognize and report equipment issues promptly to ensure safe operation.
2. PRN Clinical Support
- Remove orthopedic sutures, staples, casts, and splints per provider direction.
- Apply braces, boots, slings, immobilizers, and other orthopedic devices.
- Assist with sterile and non‑sterile injection setup (cortisone, viscosupplementation, etc.).
- Accurately enter vitals, clinical documentation, and imaging details into the EHR.
- Support patient flow during high‑volume clinic times.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- ARRT certification and Alabama state licensure required.
- Orthopedic or outpatient clinic experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with digital imaging systems and EHR platforms.
- Strong communication and patient‑service skills.
- Ability to work independently and adapt in a fast‑paced orthopedic environment.
Mental/Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity for office machine operation including computer and calculator; stooping, bending to handle files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries, or sitting for extended periods of time. Stress can be triggered by multiple staff demands and deadlines.
