Job Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and energetic individual to join our 11-year-old son’s support team as an Caregiver and Tutor. He is a bright, non-speaking student on the autism spectrum with low muscle tone, who is homeschooled and performing at a 6th-grade academic level.
This is an in-person role in our Dublin home that combines tutoring with compassionate caregiving. This position is ideal for someone who has high energy and a deep eagerness to learn. Your goal is to help him find his voice through AAC modeling while keeping him challenged, physically supported, and engaged with his schoolwork. This position is perfect for someone passionate about special education, speech therapy, or neurodiversity-affirming care.
Schedule & Hours
This is a part-time position (18.5 hours per week) with a fixed, consistent schedule:
- Monday: 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM
- Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Thursday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Friday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Note: Wednesdays and weekends are off.
Duties
- AAC Modeling & Communication: This is the most vital part of the role. You will actively use and model his AAC device throughout the day to help him communicate effectively and build language skills.
- Academic Tutoring: Follow and implement the school-provided 6th-grade curriculum. You will guide him through his lessons (Math, ELA, etc.) and adapt activities to keep him motivated.
- Floortime Engagement: Use the Floortime approach to build social-emotional connections getting on his level, following his lead, and expanding his engagement through play.
- Personal Care & Mobility: Provide assistance with activities of daily living, specifically including toileting and clean-up.
- Meal Supervision: Offer prepared meals and snacks at scheduled times, ensuring he eats on time and stays hydrated throughout the session.
- Daily Documentation: Maintain a simple daily log of his academic progress, new words modeled on his AAC, and general well-being.
- Local Transportation & Community Support: Drive him (mileage will be paid) to nearby classes or community activities to foster social interaction and community involvement. You will need to actively engage with him and support him throughout these classes to ensure he is successful and included.
Requirements & Logistics
- Experience with ASD: Essential experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities.
- High Energy & Physical Ability: He is very inactive so you need to be active to coax him.
- Eager to Learn: You must have a genuine drive and enthusiasm to learn and implement specific care, communication, and engagement techniques.
- Academic Ability: Must be comfortable and competent with 6th-grade level subjects. You will need to make sure he stays on track with homework and class.
- Compassionate & Patient: A "presume competence" mindset is vital. You should be someone who naturally fosters trust and respects his independence.
- Reliability: Adherence to the specified weekly schedule is crucial, as a consistent routine is very important for our son.
- Employment & Onboarding: You will be formally employed through our Financial Management Services (FMS) agency. Onboarding involves a mandatory background check and credentialing process, which can take up to 3 weeks to complete.
Compensation & Location
- Pay: $35.00 per hour
