Lead CNC Machinist & Programmer
Help Build Our New 2nd Shift
Location: Oak Lawn, Illinois
Shift: 2nd Shift | 3:00 p.m. – 11:45 p.m.
This isn't just another lead machinist position.
It's an opportunity to help build something.
Meyer Tool is expanding our machining department and launching a dedicated second shift to support continued growth. We're looking for an experienced CNC Machinist and Programmer who wants more than running parts—you'll help establish our second shift culture, mentor machinists, solve challenging manufacturing problems, and play a key role in shaping the future of our shop.
If you've ever thought, "If I were running this shift, I'd do things differently," this may be the opportunity you've been waiting for.
We Build Things That Change the World
For more than 56 years, Meyer Tool has manufactured precision components for national laboratories, aerospace programs, universities, advanced technology companies, and scientific research organizations.
We don't run thousands of identical production parts.
Our machinists solve new manufacturing challenges every week, producing one-of-a-kind and short-run components for cryogenic, vacuum, pressure, and research applications.
You'll work closely with engineers, welders, inspectors, and fellow machinists to bring complex ideas to life.
Your Mission
Lead our second shift by example.
You'll spend part of your time programming, setting up, and machining complex parts while also coordinating workflow, mentoring machinists, solving production challenges, and ensuring quality and on-time delivery.
This is a working leadership position where your experience, attitude, and technical expertise will directly influence the success of our growing machining department.
What You'll Do
- Program complex components using Fusion 360 CAM
- Set up and operate multi-axis CNC mills and lathes
- Optimize machining processes to improve efficiency and quality
- Lead daily second-shift production activities
- Assign work and coordinate priorities
- Mentor developing machinists and CNC operators
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming challenges
- Collaborate with Engineering on manufacturability improvements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain exceptional quality and safety standards
- Help build a positive, accountable team culture
Equipment You'll Work With
- Hurco 5-Axis Mills
- Hurco 3 & 4-Axis Mills
- Hurco TMM10 Turning Center
- Haas Mills & Lathes
- G&L Horizontal Boring Mill
- Manual Mills & Lathes
- Bullard VTL (experience a plus)
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 5+ years CNC machining in a high-mix, low-volume environment
- Strong setup and troubleshooting experience
- CAM programming experience (Fusion 360 preferred)
- Blueprint reading and GD&T proficiency
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Positive, hands-on leadership style
Preferred:
- Experience mentoring or leading machinists
- Multi-axis machining experience
- ERP experience
- Process improvement mindset
- Manual machining experience
Leadership experience is helpful—but if you're the person others naturally turn to for technical guidance, we'd still like to hear from you.
