About The Dog Academy
We are not your average dog facility, and this is not your average dog job.
The Dog Academy is Houston's most culture-driven pet care campus -- 2 acres, 32 private boarding rooms, a bone-shaped pool, multiple fields, and a team that genuinely believes that how we treat each other directly determines how well we care for the dogs. That belief has made us the best-reviewed pet care facility in the city.
We are currently rebuilding and relaunching as "The Dog Academy 2.0", and we are looking for people to grow with us from the ground up. If you want to be part of something being built, not just something already built, this is that moment.
The Role
This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role that sits at the intersection of dog care and client trust. Every dog that comes through our spa leaves cleaner, calmer, and better for the experience. That is on you. You take the time to do it right, communicate what you see, and hold the standard that our reputation is built on.
This role is physically demanding. You will be on your feet for up to 8 hours, working with dogs of all sizes and temperaments. It is precise, rewarding, and has a lot of variety in terms of dogs handled.
What You Will Do
- Bathe dogs according to each client's requests, including brush outs, blow drying, nail trims, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, and anal gland expression
- Review all prior notes for each guest before beginning any service
- Monitor each dog's health and behavior during the bathing process and report any concerns to a lead
- Ensure dogs in the spa area have access to water and a potty break if they are with you for more than two hours
- Communicate professionally with clients in person, via phone, and through report cards
- Make accurate notes in the system after each service so the rest of the team stays informed
- Maintain all bathing equipment and supplies, take weekly inventory, and notify management when restocking is needed
- Keep bathing areas clean, sanitized, and safe throughout the shift
- Coordinate with pet care staff to ensure clear communication about which dogs are in the grooming area
- Follow all guest identification procedures, including groom cards and name bands
- Adhere to all safety standards when handling guests of any size or breed
Who We Are Looking For
- At least 1 year of dog bathing experience
- Ability to handle all sizes and breeds with patience and confidence
- Strong attention to detail -- every dog gets the full treatment, done right
- Clear communication skills, both with clients and teammates
- Organized and reliable -- the dogs and the schedule depend on you
- A genuine love for dogs that goes beyond thinking they are cute
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for a full shift
- Must be 18 or older
