The company specializes in the design, manufacturing, and service of plates and gaskets for all makes and models of plate heat exchangers (PHE). These PHEs offer our clients high reliability of heat transfer, low capital investment and installation costs, reducing maintenance, operating costs, wear, and corrosion.
Job Summary
The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality systems that support WCR's manufacturing operations. This position establishes inspection standards, testing methods, and quality assurance processes to ensure products consistently meet customer specifications, industry standards, and company requirements.
The Quality Engineer works collaboratively with Engineering, Operations, Production, Supply Chain, and Customer Service to improve product quality, reduce defects, resolve quality concerns, and drive Continuous Improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement quality control procedures for manufacturing processes involving heat exchangers, plates, gaskets, and related components.
- Establish incoming, in-process, and final inspection standards to verify compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements.
- Create inspection plans, quality checklists, acceptance criteria, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Maintain document control for engineering drawings, specifications, inspection reports, quality records, and manufacturing documentation.
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company's Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements.
- Develop dimensional inspection methods and verify product conformance using appropriate measuring equipment and inspection techniques.
- Verify compliance with established welding procedures, engineering specifications, and applicable fabrication standards through inspections, testing, and quality audits.
- Coordinate hydrostatic, pneumatic, pressure, leak, and functional testing activities to verify product performance and reliability.
- Ensure inspection, measuring, and testing equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and documented.
- Develop supplier quality requirements, incoming inspection procedures, and supplier performance metrics.
- Evaluate supplier quality performance and participate in supplier audits, corrective actions, and Continuous Improvement activities.
- Review incoming material certifications, inspection documentation, and vendor quality records.
- Investigate customer complaints, warranty claims, product defects, and internal quality concerns.
- Lead root cause investigations using methodologies such as 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagrams, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and other structured problem-solving techniques.
- Analyze quality data to identify trends, reduce scrap and rework, improve first-pass yield, and minimize warranty claims.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives that improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and operational performance.
- Train employees on quality standards, inspection techniques, testing methods, and manufacturing requirements.
- Provide technical guidance regarding quality expectations, inspection requirements, and compliance with company quality standards.
- Partner with Engineering, Operations, Production, Supply Chain, and Customer Service to resolve quality issues and improve manufacturing processes.
- Maintain technical knowledge, professional certifications, and industry best practices related to quality engineering.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant manufacturing experience may be considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting fabrication, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, HVAC equipment, industrial equipment, welding operations, or metal manufacturing is preferred.
- Experience developing quality systems, inspection programs, and quality documentation is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS), ISO 9001 requirements, and manufacturing quality principles.
- Knowledge of welding inspection principles and applicable fabrication standards, including the ability to inspect and verify compliance with established welding procedures.
- Experience with pressure testing, leak testing, dimensional inspection techniques, and calibration programs.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience utilizing structured problem-solving methodologies including 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagrams, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, manufacturing standards, and customer requirements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and quality reporting software.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work throughout a manufacturing facility.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to use measuring instruments, inspection equipment, and testing devices.
- Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Work Environment
- Office environment with regular interaction throughout manufacturing and production areas.
- Indoor manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, moving equipment, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and other required safety equipment.
- Occasional travel may be required to customer locations, supplier facilities, project sites, training events, or industry conferences.

Work Status
Full Time – Work hours are Monday through Friday with flexibility to work different shifts, including occasional evenings, weekends, travel, or additional hours as business needs require.
FLSA: Exempt
Pay: $80,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
