What You’ll Do:
- The Digital Navigator provides individual and small group assistance to people who need home internet service, internet-capable devices, and coaching in workplace readiness and introductory digital skills to become effective technology users.
- This position is responsible for driving a 30’ mobile mission vehicle to a variety of host locations for service delivery (no CDL required). This includes management of the mobile unit’s technology, such as WiFi Hotspots, laptops, printers, and other equipment.
- Assess each client’s access to technology, current digital skill level, internet connectivity needs, and internet use priorities to assist each client with developing a plan to achieve individual goals.
- Track each client’s progress and requests for assistance by keeping accurate and timely records, and report outcomes as required.
- Coach clients, as necessary, to use their new technology to meet their internet use and attain certifications for workplace readiness. This may include in person, phone, and online interactions, as well as referral to sources of additional digital literacy skill training.
- Develop programs and services that support digital literacy skills and expands exposure to digital technology in our community.
- Provide group and individual lessons and proctor assessments.
- Collaborate with the Career Development Services team to ensure that goals are met, special projects are completed, and administrative duties are completed.
- Collaborate with community partners to identify community members that would benefit from improved access to internet and digital literacy training
- Identifies, develops, delivers, and facilitates curriculum, training, and development opportunities to diverse populations in topic areas surrounding digital literacy and technology usage.
- Cultivate new business relationships through site visits, networking, and other methods to engage organizations around activities involving the mobile mission vehicle and digital effectiveness.
Education, Experience, and Skills that are a must:
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in human services, sociology, psychology, business management, education, or related field. High school diploma with two years’ related experience, may be considered in lieu of Associate’s degree.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience providing high volume customer service with diverse populations is required, including training and coaching. Experience must include at least one of the following areas: computer literacy, digital skill acquisition, IT-related customer service, workforce development, teaching/instruction, library science, or human/social services.
- Must have a valid NC driver’s license, acceptable driving record, reliable personal vehicle, adequate vehicle insurance coverage, and ability to travel locally on a daily basis.
- Ability to independently negotiate competing priorities and facilitate productive relationships with diverse teams.
- Must have excellent researching, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong computer and digital literacy skills required, including but not limited to: advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite; intermediate skills or better in using databases, G-Suite, web-based learning and online job application platforms; knowledgeable about use of peripheral devices; ability to troubleshoot network room computers & user needs; must be familiar with large variety of digital platforms, tools, and software, with the interest and ability to stay current on trends and advancements. A formal assessment of digital skills is a required step of the screening process for finalist candidates.
- Comfortable and effective at handling customers and situations without input from others and in alignment with organizational mission, values, and philosophies.
- Due to the nature of the position as a front-line human service provider, successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to be creative, self-sufficient, and proactive, with excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to work alone, multi-task, and juggle competing priorities. Flexibility and responsiveness to frequent change is critical in this role.
- Must have a good command of written and spoken English, including good grammar (Bi-lingual in Spanish is strongly preferred).
- Must successfully pass pre-employment drug and background screens.
Pay Range & Schedule:
- This position is hourly/non-exempt. Wage is $22-$24 per hour, based on qualification/experience.
- Position is full-time. Work is generally conducted Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm, with occasional requirements for evening and/or weekend events.
- Position is located at our Home Office in Greensboro, NC, with daily travel throughout our 5-county service footprint including Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Randolph, and Rockingham Counties. Minimal remote work may be available at a future date based on performance.
