The Junior Fabricator ( Shop Support) exists to help the Lead Builder get work done efficiently and correctly in the shop. Their job is to learn the trade while being a reliable extra set of hands for cutting, assembly, finishing, and general shop work.
Full Responsibilities
1. Fabrication Support
Cut material according to the cut list and Lead Builder’s direction
Assist with assembly of cabinets, millwork, and custom pieces
Help with edge banding, sanding, and basic finishing
Install hardware under guidance (hinges, slides, pulls, etc.)
Keep parts organized and labeled during production
2. Shop Preparation & Cleanliness
Help stage material for upcoming jobs
Keep the work area clean and safe
Put tools and equipment back in their proper places
Assist with loading finished product for delivery when needed
3. Learning & Skill Development
Learn how to read shop drawings and cut lists
Improve accuracy in measuring, cutting, and assembly
Learn company quality standards
Take increasing responsibility as skills grow
4. Support Flexibility
Help on installs when the Lead Builder or Owner assigns it (especially in the current stage) Assist with material handling and shop organization
Support whatever the Lead Builder needs to keep production moving
Can also support on site installations if needed
Direct chain of command will be Lead Builder/Shop Manager with all shop and work related question. Next would be Operations manager can assist in answering work related questions.
What the Junior Fabricator Should Not Own
Creating cut lists or production planning (Lead Builder)
Final quality approval before a job leaves the shop
Field measuring or VIF
Client communication or design decisions
Ordering materials or handling money
Working independently on complex work without direction (until skilled enough)
