Head Cook, Intermediate School
BASIC FUNCTION:
To direct, coordinate and administer the intermediate school (4th & 5th graders) food service program so that the students are served attractive and nutritious meals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MANDATORY:

High school diploma

Ability to work with people

Genuine interest in students, K-12
DESIRABLE:

Experience as a food service worker

Experience as a manager.
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:
-
Employed by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent.

Reports to the Food Service Director.
-
Salary is set by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Education.
TECHNICAL:
-
Determines quantity of food that is prepared each day.
-
Coordinates the purchasing of all food supplies for the kitchens.
-
Checks shipments of orders and commodities.
-
Keeps inventories of food, equipment and supplies for the kitchens.
-
Uses technology to keep records for food service program.
-
Coordinates correct amount of staffing each day.
HUMAN:
-
Evaluates food service staff annually.
-
Makes work assignments on a daily basis for all kitchen help.
-
Works closely with kitchen staff to continually improve the food service program.
-
Emphasizes the importance of customer service when working with staff, students and parents.
EDUCATIONAL:
-
Provides resource information relating to nutrition or food service for classroom teachers.
-
Coordinates scheduling to enhance the instructional program.
-
Works with students, staff and parents to blend the food service program into the instructional day.
-
Keeps self and staff informed of policies and procedures that impact the food service program.
-
Provides constructive criticism when concerns arise about issues in the kitchens.
-
Attends food service training programs whenever possible.
SYMBOLIC

Communicates with vendors and merchants regarding prices and products.

Communicates with students, parents and staff members about food service program.
-
Attends school functions when appropriate.
-
Provides snacks, when appropriate, for school clubs, meetings, and organizations.

Promotes food service program through the school and community.

Works with others in the food service program to create a healthy working environment.

Initiate surveys to students, staff and parents to get feedback on the food service program.

Emphasize customer service in all areas of food service.

Model appropriate work habits for other food service employees.
