Fiber Aerial Drop Technician Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Fiber Aerial Drop Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in fiber optic installation, telecommunications, field service, and low-voltage systems. This position is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, terminating, splicing, and testing fiber optic cables to deliver high-quality service to residential and business customers.
The Fiber Aerial Drop Technician will perform aerial and underground drop installations, utilize specialized fiber optic tools and test equipment, and ensure all work meets quality and safety standards.
Essential Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain fiber optic drop services.
- Run aerial fiber service lines from pole-mounted facilities to customer premises.
- Install underground service lines from underground facilities to customer locations.
- Perform fiber optic fusion splicing, terminations, and testing.
- Utilize hand tools and specialized fiber optic equipment for installation and repair work.
- Troubleshoot network and telecommunications service issues.
- Ensure quality control of all fiber optic connections and installations.
- Complete required documentation and communicate installation status effectively.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and industry best practices.
- Provide professional customer service while working at customer locations.
QualificationsEducation
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Minimum one (1) year of relevant telecommunications, fiber optic, or installation experience required.
- Fiber installation and drop experience preferred.
- Experience with customer premise installations is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in fiber optic splicing and termination techniques.
- Knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with network installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with hand tools, test equipment, and fiber optic tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at heights up to 32 feet using ladders.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, including manholes and vaults.
- Ability to distinguish between different tones and signals.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over distances up to 200 feet.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds when required.
- Ability and willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service calls.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid driver's license required.
- Fiber optic certifications are a plus.
