KenCrest is seeking Communication Specialists to assess the ways in which individuals communicate, write communication action plans for staff/families to follow, create communication tools and tips sheets, make recommendations on updates or additions if a communication device is already in use, offer ongoing supports to navigate challenges, and train team members.
KenCrest is seeking Speech Language Pathologists with specialty training in Assistive Technology to complete evaluations for specific devices, write justifications for funding of devices through insurance or waivers, set-up devices according to the needs of clients, and offer the team ongoing support/training to maintain and update tools as needed.
Responsibilities Include:
· Communication Specialists will complete assessments, develop Communication Action Plans (CAP) with interventions using creativity and best practices; train staff on how to implement the CAP, and work directly with the individual to enhance communication with staff, family, and community members.
· Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) will be asked to evaluate the capacity of clients to work with assistive technology, what the best communication tools are for that person, techniques for team members to support this technology, write justifications for the funding of these devices, and plans to reference and train all team members. Ongoing maintenance supports and updates to the tools will be necessary.
· We provide service to individuals in Montgomery, Chester, Delaware, Berks, Bucks, and Philadelphia Counties and have a waitlist of referrals; cases should only be taken once funding for the service is confirmed.
· Teams are supported through a hybrid model of in-person and remote supports as both are necessary.
· All Communication Specialists and SLPs are asked to manage their caseload needs, negotiate follow-up in the necessary case timeline expectations, and keep all promises on desired session frequency. Communication and collaboration with team members is key in this role.
· Often this role works alongside other Clinical Team members including Behavior, Sexuality, and Occupational Therapy.
Qualifications for Communication Specialists:
· Bachelor’s degrees required in Speech Communication, Communication Disorders, or similar degree program
· Experience in assistive technology, communication disorders, sign language, education of deaf students or similar required
· Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders required
· AFTER THE INTERVIEW, IF INVITED TO ONBOARD WITH US, WE WILL NEED:
· Copy of valid driver’s license
· Communication regarding your reliable transportation
· Copy of valid car insurance
· Copies of State, Child Abuse, & Federal clearances (within 1 year of application)
· Certifications from ODP/State mandated trainings online (6400 orientation as well as entire ODP-approved Communication Specialist Series); all free online
· Proof of state mandated liability insurance - coverage parameters given after interview
· Any new state, county, or agency requirements as necessary
Qualifications for Speech Language Pathologists:
· Master’s degree and state license and certification required
· Experience in assistive technology required
· All trainings and other requirements must be completed to qualify to offer services
· Must have access to technology and tools to complete position requirements
