The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional nursing care to Sisters residing in our retirement residence in Whitestone, New York.

The Registered Nurse provides active, hands-on nursing care within the scope of professional nursing practice. This role supports the health and wellness needs of Sisters living in the retirement residence through skilled nursing care, medication administration, treatment management, wound care, health monitoring, and coordination of care.
Assess, monitor, and document residents' health status, including vital signs, weight, nutrition, elimination patterns, and changes in condition.
Administer medications and treatments in accordance with professional nursing standards.
Prepare medications as required by the residence.
Provide compassionate, respectful, person-centered nursing care that responds to changing resident needs.
Maintain resident privacy and confidentiality.
Report changes in condition to the Healthcare Coordinator and Sister Life Ministers (SLMs).
Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation.
Coordinate hospital transfers when necessary.
Assist with scheduling and follow-up for medical appointments.
Collaborate with the Healthcare Coordinator, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and contracted healthcare staff.
Provide guidance to support staff and may assist with staff coverage as needed.
Follow all infection prevention and control practices.
Request and maintain necessary medical equipment and supplies.
Provide hands-on assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
Follow all fire, emergency, and safety procedures.
Report hazardous conditions, accidents, incidents, or defective equipment immediately.
Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
Respond calmly and effectively during emergency situations.
Demonstrate initiative and accountability in daily work.
Maintain compliance with organizational policies and employee guidelines.
Communicate professionally and respectfully with Sisters, families, visitors, coworkers, and leadership.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York.
Experience working with older adults or in gerontology, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Experience caring for individuals with dementia.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and email.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Strong communication, leadership, delegation, and organizational skills.
