Construction Controller & Buildertrend Administrator
Part-time: About 20+ hours a week
Compensation: $35 to $45/hour (1099), depending on experience. This position is expected to transition to a W-2 employee role as the company continues to grow.

This is not an entry-level accounting position.
To be considered, you must have:
- Construction accounting, construction operations, or construction administration experience.
- Demonstrated experience implementing, configuring, administering, and maintaining Buildertrend as a company's primary project management platform (not simply using it).
- Hands-on experience administering QuickBooks Online, including job costing, financial reporting, and construction accounting.
- An accounting degree, CPA, or equivalent accounting certification and relevant professional experience.
- The ability to confidently lead a company's accounting function, exercise sound judgment, and manage priorities with minimal direction.

About Journey Design Build
Journey Design Build is a growing design-build contractor specializing in high-end residential and select commercial construction throughout Los Angeles.
We're a small, collaborative team that believes in hiring great people, giving them the tools they need, and trusting them to succeed. You'll work directly with ownership and our Business Operations Manager, play an important role in company decisions, and have the opportunity to help build the financial systems that support our continued growth.

This position is primarily remote, with occasional meetings at our Los Angeles office, project sites, and team gatherings. Applicants should live within reasonable driving distance of Los Angeles.
This role will begin with a focused period of reviewing, organizing, and optimizing our accounting and Buildertrend systems. Once established, the position will transition into ongoing financial management, reporting, and continuous improvement.
ResponsibilitiesCompany Accounting
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations.
- Manage QuickBooks Online and the general ledger.
- Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and cash flow reports.
- Coordinate with the company's CPA.
- Maintain accurate financial records and internal controls.
- Monitor cash flow and proactively identify financial concerns.
Construction Accounting & Buildertrend
- Configure, administer, maintain, and continually optimize Buildertrend using construction industry best practices.
- Manage and maintain the Buildertrend and QuickBooks integration.
- Establish and maintain project budgets.
- Track job costs, committed costs, client allowances, allowance balances, change orders, and budget variances.
- Ensure project costs are properly coded and allocated.
- Monitor project financial performance and communicate budget concerns proactively.
- Prepare financial reports that support informed business decisions.
Financial Systems
- Improve accounting and project financial workflows.
- Recommend and implement improvements that increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Help build scalable financial systems that support company growth.
- Utilize technology and AI tools where appropriate to improve financial processes.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of accounting experience.
- 3+ years of construction accounting experience.
- Advanced Buildertrend administration experience.
- Advanced QuickBooks Online experience.
- Strong understanding of construction job costing.
- Experience managing project budgets and financial reporting.
- Experience with progress billing and change orders.
- Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills.
- Excellent organization, communication, and attention to detail.
