Salary Range: $47,000-$52,000 (commensurate with experience)

The Homeless Leadership Alliance of Pinellas (HLA) strives to prevent, divert, and end homelessness in Pinellas County by providing leadership to community partners and stakeholders in the planning, implementation, and alignment of the community-wide crisis response system.
Job Purpose:
The Veteran Intake Specialist works with the Pinellas Continuum of Care (CoC) partner agencies, and homeless outreach teams to conduct eligibility and priority screening of Veteran households to determine program eligibility and appropriate housing interventions. The primary goal is to identify unsheltered homeless Veterans in conjunction with street outreach teams and through community referrals from mental health providers, hospitals, local law enforcement, municipalities, VA, and other social service agencies to connect with housing and shelter opportunities. The Veteran Intake Specialist will also screen veterans at risk of homelessness and triage referrals accordingly.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Works collaboratively with the Veteran System Navigator, Senior Manager of Coordinated Entry, and Veteran System Specialist to promote Coordinated Entry in the community, emphasizing the focus on those who are most vulnerable.
- Provide front-end triage coordination within the Homeless Response System.
- Administer the Family Shelter Assessment (FSA) and enroll literally homeless veteran families into the Shelter Prioritization List Program Entry.
- Assist with administering the Coordinated Entry Assessment for all homeless veterans, as needed, and apply prioritization standards and acuity thresholds to support appropriate referral pathways.
- Facilitate Veteran “By-Name-List” (Case Conferencing) Meetings with providers and stakeholders in the community.
- Assist and participate in all Veteran-related meetings, including but not limited to Grant-Per-Diem (GPD), and SSVF/VA Collaborative Meetings.
- Assign prioritized Veterans and Veteran families referred through CE for the purposes of document readiness and coordinates triage and referral sequencing based on acuity, eligibility, and system capacity.
- Assist other Navigators and case managers with troubleshooting of housing readiness documentation and collection for veterans, individuals, and families experiencing homelessness.
- Assist in identifying appropriate housing opportunities when clients have not yet been assigned a case manager, determines appropriate interim or permanent housing/ service pathways in coordination with Coordinated Entry leadership, and assists with housing applications as needed.
- Provide support and direction for Veterans and families as they transition from homelessness to housing.
- Provide light-touch case management to at-risk participants and/or participants experiencing Category 1 - Literal Homelessness, with a primary focus on front-end triage and system routing.
- Work with agency-based navigators and the outreach teams from other agencies in Pinellas County to locate and keep track of the location of the most vulnerable veterans, individuals, and families to allow for quicker entry into housing.
- Maintain statistics and completes administrative reports related to referral flow, prioritization outcomes, and intake-to-referral timeliness.
- Participate in the process of program planning as appropriate and requested by the Senior Manager of Coordinated Entry.
- Maintain complete client records, daily activity logs, and other reports as directed.
- Assist with the maintenance, including sorting, upkeep, and review of the housing priority list, supporting prioritization accuracy and system flow, specifically including the Veteran By-Name-List and updates from Veteran providers.
- Participate and provide meaningful contributions when the team or agency explores ways to improve the program and/or its workflow.
- Organize work, establish priorities, and exemplify adaptability to change and creative thinking to improve quality, productivity, and customer service/satisfaction.
- Participate in Emergency Management activities as needed.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly listening, mediation, and writing skills.
- Individuals applying for the position must be able to occasionally work a non-traditional schedule to meet community residents when they are most available (including evenings and weekends).
- Works collaboratively to promote best practices within Veteran Services, the collaborative, and the community.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, public administration, or a related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience serving homeless or at-risk families or individuals in crisis required.
- Must pass Level II Background Screening (https://info.flclearinghouse.com/).
- Reliable transportation is required; if using a personal vehicle for business purposes, must provide proof of a valid Florida Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Veteran Services, Coordinated Entry, Diversion, Housing Focused Strategies, Prevention, Rapid Re-Housing, Permanent Supportive Housing, and Trauma-Informed Care philosophies and practices.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and tasks efficiently and effectively.
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
- Ability to engage stakeholders with professionalism, empathy, and clear communication.
- Comfortable with data collection, reporting, and public presentations.
- Ability to work effectively with people of varying backgrounds
- Demonstrated professionalism and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Awareness of field-related safety concerns and ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and work with individuals experiencing challenges.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
- Strong initiative, flexibility, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, and Adobe products.
- Skilled in facilitating and supporting group processes.

Working Conditions:
The worker is subject to environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Due to the county-wide nature of this position, work will often entail travel throughout the county to attend required meetings, functions, and events. This is a hybrid position in Pinellas County, Florida.
Physical Requirements:
