Job Description:
Position Summary
The Shuttle Driveris responsible forsafely moving trailers within the manufacturing facility and yard operation while supporting continuous production flow and on-time material movement. Drivers will perform trailer spotting, dock movements, pre-trip inspections, load securement verification, and other yard support activities in a fast-paced industrial environment.
This position requires safe operation in tight yard conditions, frequent trailer movements, and strict compliance with company safety procedures and customer site requirements.
Applicants must successfully complete an on-site driving, backing, docking, and safety evaluation prior to employment.
Responsibilities:
1. Yard & Shuttle Operations
- Move trailers safely and efficiently between docks, staging areas, parking locations, and production zones.
- Perform trailer spotting and yard shuttle operations within the customer facility.
- Maintain continuous trailer flow to support manufacturing operations and production schedules.
- Safely maneuver tractors and trailers in confined and high-traffic areas.
2. Vehicle Inspection & Safety Compliance
- Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and routine vehicle inspections.
- Verify trailer conditions, securement equipment, lights, tires, and landing gear functionality.
- Follow all company safety policies, site safety requirements, and DOT-related procedures.
- Immediately report safety hazards, incidents, equipment damage, or operational concerns.
3. Load Securement & Equipment Handling
- Perform load securement checks including straps and related securement devices.
- Safely raise and lower landing gear multiple times throughout the shift.
- Ensure trailers are properly parked, secured, and positioned at assigned dock locations.
- Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned equipment.
4. Operational Support
- Support production and dispatch teams withtimelytrailer movements.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatch personnel, security, and dock teams.
- Assistwith operational tasks during periods of low shipment activity as needed.
- Remain available for overtime and weekend support during peak operational periods.
Job Requirements:
Minimum requirements:
- Ability to read, understand, and follow operational and safety instructions.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Minimum 2-3 years of commercial tractor-trailer driving experience.
- Experienceoperatingand maneuvering 53-foot trailers.
- Experience withtrailer docking, backing, and yard movements in restricted spaces.
- Ability to safelyoperatein industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Basic math, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to repeatedly enter and exit tractor equipment throughout the shift.
- Ability tooperatelanding gear and securement equipment multiple times daily.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
