Background
Union Health Service is a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic with integrated behavioral health and specialty physician support. UHS provides pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, ultrasound, optometry, and nutritional services for patients.
Position Summary
The Urgent Care Physician provides evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, stabilization, and disposition of patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and other urgent medical conditions in an outpatient setting. The physician coordinates care with primary care providers, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and specialists to deliver timely, high-quality patient care. This is a shift-based position without responsibility for ongoing panel management.
Scope of Practice
The Urgent Care Physician shall provide medical services consistent with their education, training, experience, board certification, licensure, and applicable standards of care. Clinical responsibilities and patient populations served shall remain within the physician's demonstrated competencies and legal scope of practice.
Clinical Responsibilities
· Evaluate and treat urgent care and same-day walk-in patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and exacerbations of chronic conditions
· Perform focused and problem-oriented histories and physical examinations
· Diagnose and manage a broad range of urgent medical conditions in accordance with evidence-based guidelines
· Stabilize and appropriately triage patients requiring escalation to emergency department or higher levels of care
· Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including laboratory testing and imaging with radiology support
· Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication management and patient education
· Provide appropriate follow-up recommendations and return precautions
· Coordinate care and communicate with primary care physicians and specialists as clinically indicated
· Complete accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record (EHR)
Administrative Responsibilities
· Review and address laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic results generated during urgent care encounters in a timely manner
· Ensure appropriate communication of abnormal or actionable findings to patients and/or designated providers
· Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
· Collaborate with clinic staff to support efficient patient flow and operational effectiveness
· Maintain compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, infection control practices, and clinical best practices
· Complete work-related documentation associated with urgent care encounters, including return-to-work notes and other visit-specific forms as applicable
Expectations
· Provide efficient, high-quality urgent care services while maintaining patient safety and patient satisfaction
· Physicians shall evaluate patients within the age ranges consistent with their training, experience, and credentialed privileges
· Prescribe medications in accordance with applicable laws, organizational policies, and evidence-based practices
· Provide timely and efficient patient care consistent with urgent care operations
· The Urgent Care Physician is expected to recognize clinical limitations and arrange appropriate transfer or escalation of care when indicated
· Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication with staff and providers
· Engage in continuous professional development through CME and required certifications
· Stay current with evolving clinical guidelines and standards of care
· Demonstrate proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems, including timely documentation, order entry, inbox management, and results review
Qualifications
· Completion of an undergraduate degree
· MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
· Completion of an accredited residency program in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine
· Board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine
· Board certification must remain current while practicing at UHS
· Prior urgent care, emergency medicine, or outpatient acute care experience preferred
Licensure & Certifications
· Active and unrestricted Illinois Physician License
· Current DEA registration and NPI
· Current Medicare enrollment and PECOS certification, if applicable
· Current BLS certification required
· Must maintain current & independent malpractice coverage
Employment Status
· 2-4 Saturdays per month
· Possible additional days based on organizational needs
Pay: From $117.82 per hour
