Process Engineer / Production Lead (Trailer Assembly)
Futura Trailers — North Charleston, South Carolina, USA
$28–$30/hour (more for the right person) | Full-time | Immediate start
About Futura Trailers
We design and build the world’s most innovative lowering trailers for the elite race car market. Our brand is “Engineered to be Effortless,” backed by some of the most respected names in motorsport. As we expand across the USA, we need a hands-on process engineer to lead our assembly floor and grow with us.
The Role
We’re looking for a hands-on process engineer to lead our assembly floor — a quiet, forward-planning Lean thinker who improves the process while building the product.
You’ll assemble trailers alongside two technicians. The rest of your time goes to 3S, Lean improvements, and reducing waste — and you’ll lead the team through a daily Lean improvement session on the floor. Not when there’s spare time. Every day. It’s in the schedule.
Every role at Futura is a process engineering role — you’re paid to do the job, and paid again to make the job better. If that’s how you think, this is your role.
What You’ll Own
Throughput — hit weekly build targets and run the daily workflow.
Assembly — assemble partially knocked-down trailer stacks shipped from New Zealand, then build and stack to spec for dealer collection on a tight schedule.
Process and flow — design the assembly flow, reduce wasted movement, and engineer out the problems before they reach the floor.
SOPs — we build to standard work. If an SOP doesn’t exist, you write it. If it does, you improve it. Continuous improvement is the job, not a side project.
Floor problems — be the first line of defense so techs come to you, not over your head.
Tools and equipment — upkeep, calibration, and safety of shop tools, hoists, and rigs.
Training — standardized onboarding for current and future hires.
3S — a clean, organized, tour-ready floor every day.
Quality — “right first time” is the standard, and you set it.
Parts — catch incorrect or damaged shipments before they hit the line.
What You Bring
- A process engineer’s mindset — you plan ahead, think in systems, and improve the job as you do it.
- 3–5 years in mechanical assembly (trailers, automotive, or heavy equipment), with experience leading a small team.
- Proficiency across professional hand and power tools, and a strong grasp of mechanical systems.
- Lean experience — inventory control, Kanban, and standard work. 3S / 5S a strong plus.
- QC or inspection background.
- Quietly professional and reliable — comfortable with driver handovers and keeping plant leadership informed without the noise.
Requirements
- Legal right to work in the US with valid documentation.
- Current, full US Driver’s License.
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs and pass a physical if required.
- Able to pass pre-employment checks, including criminal history and drug/alcohol screening.
How We Hire
Forget the cover letter. Send us a short WhatsApp video (2–3 minutes) to +64 21 183 5652 — who you are, why Futura, and why you’d lead our shop well. We want to see the person, not just the resume.
Shortlisted candidates come in for a full paid trial day on the floor. That’s how we both find out if it’s a fit. The right person can start immediately after.
Only selected applicants will be contacted.
