Larchmont Temple Nursery School is looking for an Assistant Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year., beginning in September. LTNS is a play-based nursery school that draws inspiration from Reggio Emilia and Bank Street College approaches. Teachers plan emergent curriculum based on interests of the children and curriculum is carried out through project-based learning.
LTNS believes children are curious and filled with ideas and theories. They are capable of playing a role in their own learning and their interests drive the classroom curriculum. It is important that our teachers carefully plan activities and explorations that will stimulate the children’s curiosity and love for learning.
This position requires knowledge and skill in working with children ages 2-5, flexibility and the ability to differentiate for a variety of learning styles and needs, as well as a passion for working with children, colleagues and families.
Minimum Qualification/Requirements:
– Experience working with young children
– An understanding of the many “languages” of expression used in early childhood classrooms
– Warm and nurturing, with the ability to meet the social-emotional needs of young children
– Hardworking and eager to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and colleagues
Job Responsibilities:
* Attendance at all staff meetings
* Supervising classrooms when Head Teacher is out of the room
* Completing 30 hours of professional development every 2 years
* Help with preparation of the classroom each morning from 8:30-9:00 daily
* Help with classroom clean-up and planning from 2:30-3:00
* Treating children, parents, colleagues and Temple employees with dignity and respect
* Maintaining strict confidentiality about any information you may learn in regards to children, families, and school matters
* Helping to create teamwork and promote collaboration through good communication and a positive attitude between individuals on each team, as well as other teams
* Discussion of any ideas, problems, or concerns with the classroom Head Teacher and other classroom teachers first, then with the Director
