TITLE: Recreation Coordinator DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Parks & Recreation Coordinator is responsible for providing guidance, direction, and coordination of department operations. This role focuses on planning, organizing, budgeting, and executing a variety of recreational programs, facilities, and special events to enhance community engagement and promote a healthy lifestyle for all residents.
Essential Functions:
Plan, organize, and oversee day-to-day operations of programs, camps, facilities, and special events. Evaluate program effectiveness, feasibility, and community needs to make budgetary recommendations and develop new initiatives.
Administer, operate, and maintain park areas and facilities; schedule athletic fields and manage park rentals.
Supervise personnel, including assisting in the hiring, training, and evaluation of staff, instructors, and volunteers. Assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Parks & Recreation Manager.
Assist with long-range planning, including updating Comprehensive and Capital Improvement Plans.
Serve as a staff liaison to the Recreation Advisory Council (RAC) and other community groups; prepare and present reports to the Council and Board of Supervisors.
Design and produce publicity strategies across print, electronic, and social media platforms; oversee the distribution of the electronic quarterly recreation guide.
Maintain accurate statistics on attendance, finances, and volunteerism; process registrations and fee collections. Ensure adherence to policies, safety regulations, and ethical standards.
Position Requirements:
Experience, Education, Licenses/Certification
Proven experience in programs and event coordination and management.
Bachelor’s degree with major course work in recreation administration or related degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid CPR, First Aid and AED certifications within 90 days of hire.
Acceptable criminal background check and child abuse clearance is required.

Ability to fluently speak and read the English language along with understanding and following both written and verbal direction on a daily basis.
Ability to speak with clarity and present information at public events.
Ability to execute the policies and procedures of Silver Spring Township.
Occasionally needs to remain stationary for over two hours.
Ability to pull, push, move and/or transport twenty-five (25) pounds on a daily basis.
