Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Surgery Scheduler to join our dynamic healthcare team. Responsibilities
- Schedule surgeries and procedures accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance authorization and verification processes to ensure smooth patient flow
- Review medical documentation, including care plans, medical records, and clinical notes for completeness and accuracy
- Communicate effectively with patients via phone and in person, demonstrating exceptional phone etiquette and patient service skills
- Coordinate with physicians, surgical teams, and support staff to confirm scheduling details, prepare necessary documentation, and facilitate pre-operative instructions
- Maintain detailed records of scheduling activities, documentation review, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding, ICD (International Classification of Diseases) coding including ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information and managing health information securely
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical scheduling or administrative support within a healthcare setting; clinic or dental office experience is highly desirable
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), Medicare policies, and insurance verification processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), typing skills (including 10 key), and computer literacy for efficient data entry and documentation management
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy
- Prior experience in medical billing or healthcare office management will be advantageous
- Strong communication skills coupled with professional phone etiquette and customer service orientation
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to health information management is essential
