Boone Preschool and Childcare has been an icon in downtown Lee’s Summit since 1967 and we have recently expanded to Blue Springs and Oak Grove! We are looking for an inspiring, motivated, and caring Center Director to join our team. Our teachers work in classrooms of 8-10 children; we value small class sizes to offer our best to the children in our care.
Description
The Director of Boone Preschool ensures each child receives proper care. This requires knowledge and expertise in child development and educational program administration to create engaging and appropriate activities that meet a child’s emotional, social, and cognitive needs. The Director is also responsible for hiring and training staff, communicating with parents and stakeholders, and maintaining a healthy and safe facility.
Hours
- Monday through Friday
- Typically 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
- One hour long break (time of day may vary)
- Flexible working hours to accommodate changing needs of the business
- May be required to come in early to open, or stay late to close
- Host a small handful of one-off events each year, including graduation, Christmas program, or open houses.
Requirements
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requires Directors to hold the minimum education: 120 college semester credits, including 24 in child-related courses. Up to 6 of these 24 credits can be in business/management. An official transcript is required for certification.
The candidate must also be able to pass a DESE Director Certification, including background screening, fingerprinting, and a Doctor’s physical.
Program Management
- Assist teachers with conducting programs and learning plans that meet state requirements and parent expectations. Model curriculum plan laid out by the Curriculum Specialist.
- Assist teachers in conducting parent-teacher communication
- Conduct all billing adjustments with accurate recording; ensure billing plans are up to date
- Address all daily needs on our management software, including parent communication, billing, and staff communication
- Facilitate student enrollment
- Retain all student paperwork and keep organized per state regulations
- Coordinate the annual licensing of the school; ensure minimum requirements are always met and seek opportunities to improve
Staff Management
- Source candidates, interview applicants, and hire staff members
- Ensure all background checks, fingerprints, etc have processed for new hires
- Conduct staff orientation and retain all necessary paperwork
- Provide training and observation to ensure staff adhere to all protocols and state licensing requirements
- Oversee staff scheduling in conjunction with Assistant Director
- Lead staff meetings as needed
- Organize continuing education opportunities
- Ensure employee handbook is followed
Facility Management
- Maintain a safe and clean facility, including classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and exterior areas
- Ensure food supply is well stocked and organized
- Ensure required safety equipment is available and in working order with no hazards present
- Ensure any supplies & equipment are ordered regularly and kept organized
- Adhere to any local and federal regulations and allow regular state inspections of the facility
- Allow fire and sanitation inspections and take any corrective action needed.
Capacity Management
- Hire teachers and substitutes to ensure student/teacher ratios are kept
- Enroll max capacity of students per school year
- Communicate with Director of Operations to employ marketing campaigns as needed for students and/or staff
School and Community Relations
- Articulate the school’s mission to staff and families
- Represent the center in a professional, courteous, and positive manner
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning for staff, students, and parents
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, and their families
- Represent the preschool to visitors, including new and prospective families; provide facility tours for prospective families
- Create monthly newsletter
