Performs the primary functions of a Registered Professional Nurse, supervising care and testing for patients undergoing procedures in Cardiology Services. Is responsible for adhering to all established Hospital Policies. Is accountable to managing all related supplies and equipment and for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.
Principle Accountabilities:

Under direction of Cardiologist, supervises cardiac stress testing:

Screens patients for suitability of test, identifies physical, emotional, and medical parameters and determines outcome

Identifies contraindications for testing, notifies Cardiologist and referring MD
-
Recognizes and treats cardiac arrhythmias
-
Administers medications according to test policy
-
Recognizes and initiates treatment for adverse outcomes
-
Provides Cardiologist with clinical information for test prognosis
-
Conducts pre- and post-test patient education
-
Conduct Tilt Table testing:
-
Screens patients for suitability of test, identifies physical emotional, and medical parameters and determines outcome

Identifies contraindications for testing, notifies Cardiologist and referring MD

Recognizes and treats cardiac arrhythmias

Administers medications according to test policy

Recognizes and initiates treatment for adverse outcomes

Provides Cardiologist clinical information for test prognosis

Conducts pre- and post-test patient education

Assist Cardiologist Perform TEE/Cardioversion:

Assists with TEE/Cardioversion setup

Assesses patient during all phases, administers moderate sedation (TEE and Cardioversion only)

Performs EKGs

Completes documentation accurately and completely

Maintains following credentials:

Basic Life support

Advanced Cardiac Life support

Assists department with patient care and testing:

Verifies orders.

Maintains equipment in serviceable condition:

Performs basic trouble-shooting of equipment

Contacts Bio-Medical services for inoperable equipment

Check crash carts/defibrillators daily

Uses computer systems:

Retrieve patient reports from computer

Uses MORTARA to edit and retrieve EKG/stress data

Uses automated data system to record tests
-
Answers phones promptly and politely.

Assist with department functionality:

Actively participates in Process Improvement

Files tests electronically and physically

Validates supply levels and informs when low

Cleans and stocks procedure rooms daily

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested:

Represents Head Nurse where and when designated

Participate in new staff orientation, conduct staff development training and education

Employee is required to walk continuously and sit occasionally. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) medium (21-50 lbs.) load occasionally and heavy (50 lbs. +) load frequently. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to perform simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards and CRT terminal work. Verbal and cognitive ability, as well as motor coordination and manual dexterity are required. Speech, hearing, and near-visual acuity are required. May be needed to work any shift due to 24-hour day, 7 days per week operation. May be required to work on other patient care units as needed. Employee is frequently exposed to blood borne pathogens.
