JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of the Finance Director, the Staff Accountant is responsible for performing professional accounting work in support of the Agency’s fiscal operations, financial reporting, month-end and year-end close processes, and regulatory compliance requirements.
The Staff Accountant applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in maintaining accurate financial records, analyzing account activity, preparing reconciliations and journal entries, and supporting internal financial controls.
The Staff Accountant exercises independent judgment in the preparation and maintenance of accounting records and supporting schedules, assists with financial analysis and audit preparation, and supports the integrity of the Agency’s accounting systems and reporting processes. The position also provides accounting support and cross coverage for essential Finance Department functions as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
This position requires a high degree of professionalism, analytical ability, confidentiality, ethical conduct, and stewardship of Agency financial resources and information.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required.
2. Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization, including general ledger reconciliations, month-end close activities, financial reporting support, accounts payable/accounts receivable reconciliation, and payroll accounting. Cost accounting experience preferred.
3. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously with professionalism, organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
4. Proficiency in computerized accounting systems, including QuickBooks and Fund EZ, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
5. Knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), nonprofit accounting practices, and internal accounting controls.
6. Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
7. Valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to travel to multiple organizational locations as required.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
