JOB TITLE: Education Specialist

REPORTS TO: Education Director
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
AFTER - SCHOOL HOURS (FALL/SPRING): Monday - Friday 1:00pm - 6:00pm
25 hours/week
SUMMER HOURS: Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm (1 unpaid hour break/lunch)
35 hours/week (Flexible if needed)
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The purpose of the Education Specialist is to coordinate and lead academic success programs, help train and pair volunteers with Boys & Girls Club members who need additional support in math and reading, and to support all members with homework and educational programming.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure physical and emotional safety of members at all times using trauma informed behavioral practices.
- Provide guidance and positive role modeling to youth.
- Encourage program participation in a fun, enriching environment.
- Participate in training and development opportunities.
- Plan daily small-group instruction for Boost program for all BGCP sites that aligns with BGCP requirements and NC DPI state standards.
- Monitor behavior and implement discipline policy for members as necessary.
- Work with the Education Director to maintain inventory and organization for all Learning Center and academic equipment and program supplies.
- Execute Academic Programs including Boost and Power Hour.
- Create at least one after-school lesson for k-6 to be implemented in other sites
- Complete and deliver at least one after-school lesson for K-6 per grade level per week.
- Support Education Director in maintaining communication with Education Professionals in the community.
- Monitor and evaluate education programs in conjunction with the Education Director.
- Help the Education Director coordinate BOOST and Academic Program volunteers.
- Support in collection of academic data for grants.
- Participate in scheduled staff training and meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in special programs and/or events.
- Set up and strike educational programming spaces.
- Daily problem solving, critical thinking, and ability to adapt.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree or current student in related fields, such as Education, Art Education, Parks & Recreation, Rec Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, etc.
- Previous experience managing groups of children in educational setting is strongly desired
- Previous experience making lesson plans and aligning to state standards strongly desired.
- Desire to motivate and provide an enriching environment for youth
- Fluency in Spanish is strongly desired
- CPR & First Aid Certification strongly desired
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be in moderate physical shape (able to stand for long periods of time, walk, and occasionally run without tiring), may be required to lift up to 55 lbs.
