Overview
Join our dedicated judicial team as a Deputy District Court Clerk, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of court proceedings. You will perform the duties prescribed in Chapter 3.54 RCW for South District Court. Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent with three years related office experience; OR a Legal Assistant Certificate of Proficiency with one and one-half years related office experience; OR an Associate Degree; OR demonstrated equivalent combination of education, formal training and/or experience. Must pass a criminal background check.
Duties
- Assist in managing court dockets, scheduling hearings, and maintaining accurate case records
- Conduct legal research and gather information pertinent to ongoing cases and procedural law requirements
- Prepare legal documents, reports, and correspondence with precision using word processing tools
- Enter data accurately into case management systems and maintain organized filing systems for all court records
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries from the public, attorneys, and court staff in a professional manner
- Support courtroom procedures by coordinating with judges, attorneys, and witnesses to ensure smooth proceedings
- Handle confidential information with utmost discretion and adhere to legal terminology and procedural standards
Skills
- Strong research skills with experience in legal research methods and resources
- Paralegal or litigation experience is highly desirable to understand courtroom procedures and legal drafting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) along with general office experience
- Demonstrated legal administrative experience including data entry, filing, and case management software familiarity
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of procedural law, legal terminology, and courtroom protocol
- Exceptional writing skills for preparing reports, legal documents, and correspondence
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining professionalism at all times
- Strong clerical skills such as typing quickly and accurately, cash handling, and general office procedures
