A speech language pathologist assistant is expected to perform many different duties, which can include:
- Treat communication disorders such as speech, fluency, language, voice and swallowing disorders.
- Implement a treatment plan from speech pathologist.
- Create personalized care plans for each patient, often working with other medical staff on an interdisciplinary team.
- Educate and counsel patients and families on communication and swallowing disorders.
- Research speech and communication disorders and develop new diagnostic procedures and devices.
