Lavelle School for the Blind has opening for a Teacher Aide. The qualifications of the candidate and responsibilities for the position are as follows:
Qualifications and Personal Characteristics:
· Physical ability to perform all aspects of the job in the classroom and on the playground/adaptive physical education
· High School Diploma
· Experience working in a school setting with multiple disabilities/visual impairments
· Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
· Maintains confidentiality in regard to student records
· Displays flexibility, patience, good judgement and dependability
· Responds appropriately in crisis situations
· Follows all employment guidelines
· Represents himself/herself professionally at all times
Responsibilities:
· Follow daily routines under the direction of the Classroom Teacher
· Accompany students to special classes (Art, Music, and Adaptive Physical Education) and assist with activities
· Assist students with behavioral/management needs including data collection
· Assist in the preparation of instructional materials
· Provide toileting, feeding, physical care, and health related activities for and with students in the classroom, lunchroom, playground, and special classes. This includes transfer and lifting of students when necessary.
· Participate in monthly staff meetings and staff conference days
· Assist in cleaning and maintaining the classroom equipment as assigned by the Classroom Teacher
· Substitute for the Classroom Teacher as designated by Administrative Personnel
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Salary rate: $26,000 for 10-month program plus additional $4,262.40 for 2-month summer program.
