Machine Maintenance & Production Support Associate
About Roam
Roam is a growing custom candle and gifting company based in the Austin area. We produce premium candles, room sprays, matchboxes, printed packaging, and custom branded gifts for businesses, events, hospitality groups, and corporate clients. Our work combines hands-on production, printing, fulfillment, equipment operation, and quality control, so our team needs people who are dependable, detail-oriented, mechanically capable, and willing to help keep the operation moving smoothly.
Position Overview
Roam is looking for a hands-on Machine Maintenance & Production Support Associate to help keep our production equipment running safely, consistently, and efficiently.
This is a technical, floor-based role. Mechanical ability is essential. The right person should already be comfortable using tools, troubleshooting equipment, solving practical mechanical problems, and learning how machines work.
This position will be responsible for maintaining, cleaning, troubleshooting, documenting, and supporting key machines used in candle production, printing, filling, packaging, fulfillment, and warehouse operations. When machines are running properly, this person will also support general production work as needed.
This is a good fit for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving equipment problems, staying organized, and being part of a fast-moving production team.
Primary Responsibilities
Machine Maintenance & Troubleshooting
The primary responsibility of this role is to help keep Roam’s production equipment operating properly.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, setup, adjustment, and troubleshooting on production equipment.
- Diagnose basic mechanical issues and help determine whether the problem is operator error, setup, wear, parts failure, calibration, cleaning, or another machine-related issue.
- Support equipment used in candle production, printing, filling, packaging, fulfillment, and warehouse operations.
- Assist with machine setup, changeovers, daily readiness checks, shutdown procedures, and preventive maintenance.
- Identify recurring machine problems and help develop permanent fixes instead of relying on temporary workarounds.
- Use basic hand tools and common troubleshooting methods to resolve simple mechanical issues.
- Communicate clearly with management when a machine is down, unsafe, inconsistent, or producing quality issues.
- Escalate larger repairs when outside support, replacement parts, or management approval is needed.
- Help reduce downtime by catching problems early and keeping machines properly maintained.
- Keep tools, parts, maintenance areas, and machine areas clean, labeled, organized, and ready for use.
Equipment Documentation & Preventive Maintenance
- Maintain machine logs, repair notes, maintenance checklists, troubleshooting records, and setup notes.
- Document common problems, likely causes, repair steps, machine settings, part numbers, vendors, and replacement items.
- Help create and improve SOPs for machine operation, cleaning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety.
- Track machine parts, tools, supplies, replacement items, and maintenance inventory.
- Support preventive maintenance schedules so equipment is inspected and serviced before problems disrupt production.
- Help make machine knowledge repeatable and documented, rather than dependent on one person.
Technical Support for Production
- Monitor equipment performance during production and respond quickly when issues arise.
- Help operators use machines correctly and follow proper setup, cleaning, and shutdown procedures.
- Catch machine-related quality issues before they become larger production problems.
- Communicate when equipment setup, operator error, workflow, or maintenance issues are causing delays, waste, or inconsistent quality.
- Work with managers and team leads to improve repeatability, organization, and accountability around equipment use.
- Look for practical ways to improve machine setup, workflow, safety, efficiency, and uptime.
Production & Floor Support
While machine maintenance and troubleshooting are the main focus of this role, this is still a hands-on production-floor position.
- Assist with daily production work when equipment is running properly or when the team needs support.
- Help with candle production, jar preparation, wicking, pouring support, trimming, labeling, packing, fulfillment, and general warehouse work as needed.
- Follow established SOPs and production instructions accurately.
- Help keep production areas clean, organized, safe, and ready for use.
- Support team leads and managers during busy production periods.
- Move with urgency while maintaining quality, safety, and accuracy.
