GENERAL FUNCTION
The Handyman/Handywoman is responsible for carrying out, in a timely manner, any repair or maintenance needs of the Club
units. This person may also work on aspects of any capital expansion projects that are initiated by the club. The
Handyman/Handywoman reports directly to the Director of Operations.
SKILLS
· Must possess organizational as well as verbal and written communication skills.
· Must have the ability to complete necessary paperwork to order supplies, plan projects and daily work schedule as
needed.
Requires demonstrated competence and experience in the following:
· Painting
· Basic electrical, plumbing and repair skills
· Use of basic maintenance tools
· Repair of Program Equipment
· Knowledge of supplies needed to complete repairs
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
1. Make regular evaluations of each unit and keep a current list of necessary repairs using facility maintenance forms.
2. Contact the Director of Operations with any concerns over wear and tear on the buildings, preventative needs, items
requiring extended timelines for repair or items requiring concurrent timelines. Most repairs should be completed within a 3-
day period unless otherwise agreed upon by the Handyman/Handywoman and the Director of Operations.
3. Set up a maintenance schedule for periodic maintenance checks (i.e. roof inspections, plumbing inspections and resetting
light timers according to the daylight savings time changes, etc.).
4. Assist Branch Directors & Director of Operations in dealing with outside vendors upon request (i.e. landscapers, janitorial
workers, alarm company, repair technicians, etc.) to assure Club of quality services.
5. Make suggestions regarding the best way to resolve current and future maintenance problems.
6. Purchase supplies as needed for repairs, following Boys & Girls Club of Greater Ventura procedures.
7. Assist the Director of Operations in obtaining at least two bids for outside contracted repairs and expansion projects.
8. Assist CEO and Director of Operations in planning, preparing and executing capital improvement projects
9. Perform any additional tasks deemed necessary by the Director of Operations to obtain the goals and objectives of the
organization.
JOB REQUIREMENTS · Able to stand for long periods of time. · Able to handle tools that are needed for maintenance and expansion work (i.e.: hand tools, power tools, ladders, scissor lifts, hand trucks, bolt cutters, driving a maintenance van, etc.). · Able to reach above head for attaining, replacing, and storing maintenance supplies. · Able to use cleaning supplies (i.e. a mop, broom, dustpan, vacuum, floor buffer, use of chemicals, empty trash cans, etc.). · Able to squat or stoop to pick things up or work on a project. · Able to climb ladders, keep your balance and complete maintenance tasks. · Must possess a valid Class “C” license for at least 1 year, have a good driving record and the ability to drive the club maintenance van. · Able to follow the employment rules and dress code as established by the Boys & Girls Club. · Willingness to accept emergency calls outside of typical work hours. PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT Must have the physical skills abilities for the working conditions that are required to perform the essential duties of this position, as required by the American with Disabilities Act. The physical skills might include sitting or standing for long periods of time, walking, and carrying or lifting items of 60-100 pounds at one time, squatting, bending over, twisting, or repetitive motions. These activities might be in addition to other physical skills that are needed to complete the job description.
