Overview
We build and operate immersive entertainment attractions in the Charleston area: escape rooms, indoor mini golf, axe throwing, live game shows, and other group experiences.
We are looking for a builder. Not a handyman who patches drywall, and not a contractor who follows prints someone else drew. We want someone who can look at an empty room, hear an idea like "this should feel like the inside of a crashed alien research lab," and go build it.
If you have built a haunted house, a theater set, a film set, a parade float, a trade show booth, a custom bar, or a mini golf hole, and people walked in and said "how did you do that," we built this role for you.
What You Will Build
- Themed mini golf holes: obstacles, ramps, moving elements, hardscape, turf, and scenic surrounds
- New escape rooms from empty shell to opening day: framing, walls, ceilings, doors, hidden passages, and set dressing
- Interactive props and puzzles: hidden compartments, maglocks, magnetic and reed switches, sensors, buttons, levers, sequence puzzles, and reset mechanisms
- Air-driven effects and scares: compressors, solenoids, air cannons, and pneumatic props
- Stage and show props for our live game show format
- Scenic finishing: aging, weathering, faux stone, faux wood, rust, foam carving, and paint treatments that hold up under low light
- Upgrades, repairs, and preventive maintenance so games and attractions run every day without a hiccup
What You Will Do Day to Day
- Take a rough concept or a napkin sketch and turn it into a plan, a materials list, and a budget
- Source materials locally and online with cost and lead time in mind
- Build, install, wire, test, and then try to break your own work on purpose to see if a guest could break it first
- Work around the game and event schedule, which sometimes means early mornings, late nights, or a weekday when a room is dark
- Coordinate with our show control, lighting, and AV vendors so your mechanical build lines up with their programming
- Document how things are built and how to reset them so the operations team can run and fix them without you standing there
What We Need From You
- Solid hands-on carpentry: framing, sheathing, trim, doors, and basic structural work
- Comfort with power tools, hand tools, and shop equipment, and the judgment to use them safely
- Basic electrical and low voltage work: running wire, relays, 12V systems, power supplies, maglocks
- Painting and finishing skill, including the ability to make new material look old
- Mechanical problem solving. You should be able to look at a mechanism and figure out why it is sticking
- Creativity with constraints. Cool ideas are easy. Cool ideas that fit a $600 budget and a two week window are the job
- Ability to work independently once you know the goal, and to speak up early when something will not work
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license for material runs
- Physically able to lift 50 pounds, work on ladders and lifts, and be on your feet most of the day
Bonus Points For
- Escape room, haunted attraction, theme park, or theater set experience
- Hands-on experience with escape room prop and game control systems (Escape Keepers, Peekaboo's, Cluecontrol, or similar), including maglock releases, prop controllers, and compressed air effects
- Welding and metal fabrication
- Foam carving, sculpting, mold making, or hardcoat
- Arduino, Raspberry Pi, relay boards, and sensor wiring
- DMX lighting, audio, and video playback
- 3D printing, CNC, or CAD and SketchUp modeling
- Concrete, turf, and hardscape experience for the mini golf build
- Prior experience building for the public, meaning you already think about durability, egress, and safety codes
Schedule and Details
- Flexible daytime schedule for most builds, with some nights and weekends when a space has to come offline
- Paid biweekly on Fridays
- You bring your own tools. We keep a minimal set on hand and provide shop space, but this role expects you to show up equipped
- You will see your work in front of real guests within weeks, not years
Please submit, photos of some things you have built. Rough phone pictures are fine. We care about what you made, not how it was photographed.
