Archaea Energy, a bp company, is a leader in landfill gas to energy and the largest renewable natural gas (RNG) producer in the US. With big ambitions, we specialize in the development, construction and operation of RNG, landfill-gas-to-electric and dairy digester facilities. The team operates around 50 sites in 32 states with a robust development pipeline.
About the role
This position will report to the CFO of Conifer Systems as well as into the Archaea Operational Accounting team. This position will also receive direction from the CEO of Conifer on projects and tasks as needed. The candidate should have a working knowledge of construction/manufacturing accounting and project cost control process flow.
This position will provide cost control support which is critical to forecasting and reporting financial performance for the business unit as well as steering commercial/sales efforts based on product throughput and market pricing tolerance correlated to specific product gross margin potential. We are looking for a self-starter with strong time management skills and the ability to work in a dynamic environment. The position will be located in Houston but will be eligible to work from home for limited days throughout the week.
Key accountabilities
Prepare financial statements including balance sheet and income statement
Ensure accurate revenue recognition through percentage of completion process with construction/manufacturing accounting.
Analyzes and controls costs associated with business unit projects. Cost control activities include:
Forecast review/reconciliation and cost trend analysis
Verify proper costs classification
Track man-hours allocated to a project
Verify supplier invoices are compliant with corporate invoicing procedures and have been accurately coded in the general ledger
Compile supplemental financial reports based on financial statements
Implement policies and procedures for financial reporting as required
Responsible for timely, accurate and efficient completion of monthly accounting close process
Support Supply Chain efforts to ensure Inventories and reported results are accurate.
Manages business unit accounting functions on a day-to-day basis including invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and procurement
Provides support to Corporate for payroll, treasury management and general ledger accounting
Assists Corporate on local, state and federal tax compliance and reporting matters
Assists business unit CFO with preparation and completion of the fiscal year budgeting process, evaluates business unit performance against budget, and develops forecasts/revisions to provide an accurate projection of financial performance
Participate in SOX compliance activities
Provide assistance with external audits and internal control compliance activities
Other duties and special projects as required
Essential education
Bachelor's (preferred), will accept equivalent work experience
Essential experience
10 years experience in accounting, process control, product or contract management, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Familiar with project cost control and revenue recognition strategies including standard cost, gross margin, completed contracts and percent of completion
Knowledge and experience working with business intelligence tools or software
Financial acumen and analytical skills
Project management and process improvement experience
Demonstrates engagement and teamwork
Must have excellent time management skills, initiative, self-direction, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment (such as a start-up)
Must be able to handle multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Advanced knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft products
Desirable criteria
Acumatica experience is a plus
Renewable, power or utility industry experience preferred
Preferable experience in the equipment manufacturing segment of the power/utility or energy industry

How much do we pay? $100,000 - $130,000. *Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 – 240 hours of vacation per year for full times employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees). You will also be eligible for 9 paid holidays per year and 2 personal choice holidays.
