Duties
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes
- Prepare and submit accurate claims for insurance reimbursement using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies
- Verify patient insurance information and ensure all billing details are correct before submission
- Maintain comprehensive and organized medical records, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation for accurate coding and billing
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and regulatory requirements
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, and DRG classifications
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and insurance claim processes
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for billing and record keeping
- Excellent understanding of medical office procedures, including patient data entry and documentation accuracy
- Ability to interpret complex medical records and translate them into precise codes for billing purposes
