Role Description The Environmental Monitor is a full-time, on-site role based in San Juan. This position is responsible for conducting regular field inspections and sampling of water and vulnerable species like Puerto Rican Boa and Manatee, following established protocols and safety guidelines. The Environmental Monitor records measurements, maintains monitoring equipment, and documents observations in logs and digital systems. The role involves preparing concise reports, communicating findings to supervisors and project leads, and assisting with regulatory compliance documentation. Day-to-day tasks also include coordinating site access, adhering to health and safety procedures, and supporting environmental assessments and audits as needed.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform accurate environmental fieldwork, including sampling, measurements, and observations.
- Strong attention to detail for data recording, documentation, and report preparation.
- Capacity to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain while following safety standards.
- Effective communication skills for sharing findings with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Basic proficiency with computers and software for data entry, spreadsheets, and report writing.
- Organizational skills to manage schedules, equipment, and multiple monitoring sites.
- Bachelor’s degree required in environmental science, biology, or related field preferred.
- Prior experience in environmental monitoring, or field inspections is an advantage.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and follow established procedures and guidelines.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to monitoring locations in and around San Juan.
Pay: $16.00 - $24.00 per hour
