This position is responsible for developing relationships with architects, designers, specifiers, consultants, developers, and other key decision-makers to increase the specification and use of Western States Metal Roofing products on commercial, residential, and architectural projects.
The Architectural Representative will serve as a knowledgeable resource for the design community, helping firms select the appropriate metal roofing and wall systems, profiles, finishes, colors, and related products for their projects.
This is not simply a sales position. The goal is to get Western States involved early in the design and specification process, build long-term relationships with architectural firms, create project opportunities, and help convert specifications into completed projects.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with architects, designers, specifiers, consultants, developers, general contractors, and other industry professionals.
- Proactively identify architectural firms, projects, and market opportunities where Western States products can be specified.
- Work to have Western States Metal Roofing products written into architectural specifications and included in project design documents.
- Conduct architectural presentations, product demonstrations, lunch-and-learns, and educational meetings.
- Educate architects and designers on Western States roofing and wall panel systems, specialty finishes, colors, materials, applications, and capabilities.
- Assist architectural firms with product selection, specifications, technical information, details, testing information, samples, color selections, and other project requirements.
- Follow projects from the early design/specification stage through bidding, award, and construction.
- Maintain an active pipeline of architectural projects and specification opportunities.
- Coordinate with the Western States sales team to ensure specified projects are properly followed through the bidding and purchasing process.
- Develop relationships with architectural firms that create repeat specifications and long-term opportunities for Western States.
- Identify upcoming projects through architectural relationships, industry contacts, project databases, and market research.
- Maintain accurate records of architectural contacts, presentations, specifications, projects, and follow-up activities in the company's CRM.
- Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Estimating, Technical, and Production teams to ensure architects receive accurate and timely information.
- Represent Western States professionally at architectural events, trade shows, industry organizations, conferences, and networking opportunities.
- Provide feedback to management regarding architectural trends, competitive products, emerging design trends, and products being requested by the design community.
- Help expand awareness of Western States' specialty products, including architectural metal roofing and siding systems, weathering steel, specialty prints, textures, and unique finishes.
- Travel within the assigned territory as necessary to meet with architectural firms, customers, and project stakeholders.
- Experience working with architects, designers, specifiers, contractors, manufacturers, or construction-related organizations.
- Experience in architectural building products, metal roofing, metal wall systems, building envelope products, construction materials, or a related industry strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of the architectural specification and construction process.
- Proven ability to develop professional relationships and generate opportunities through relationship-based business development.
- Comfortable presenting products and technical information to architectural firms and groups.
- Strong communication, presentation, organization, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to understand and communicate technical product information, testing, specifications, installation requirements, and product applications.
- Ability to read and understand architectural drawings and specifications.
- Strong computer skills and experience working within CRM systems.
- Self-motivated and capable of managing a territory, project pipeline, and multiple long-term opportunities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with sales representatives and internal departments to move projects from specification through completion.
- Professional appearance and communication style appropriate for working directly with architects, designers, developers, and other industry professionals.
- Willingness to travel regularly within the assigned market.
- Existing relationships within the architectural, design, construction, or building-products community are highly desirable.
Success in this position will be measured by more than immediate sales. The Architectural Representative will be expected to consistently increase Western States' presence within architectural firms, generate new specifications, develop a strong pipeline of future projects, build repeat relationships with key firms, and ultimately help convert those specifications into revenue for Western States Metal Roofing.
