Accomack County is seeking a dedicated Regulatory Compliance Technician to help ensure our Solid Waste operations meet all local, state, and federal environmental and health regulations while protecting our community and natural resources.
What You’ll Do
In this dynamic role, you’ll combine technical expertise with hands-on fieldwork and administrative responsibilities. Key duties include:
- Ensuring compliance with environmental and health regulations
- Providing technical guidance and regulatory support
- Assisting with environmental inspections and groundwater remediation
- Conducting staff training on regulator and operational requirements
- Supporting landfill permitting, billing, and receipt processing
- Managing landfill leachate operations, including the operation and maintenance of the County’s Leachate Treatment Facility
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in a technical field such as environmental science, wastewater treatment, chemistry, biology, or a related discipline
- One to four (1 to 4) years of experience in industrial wastewater operations
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as environmental science, wastewater treatment, chemistry, biology, or a related field
- Five (5) or more years of experience in industrial wastewater operations
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current Wastewater Works Operator License (Class 4)
- Waste Management Facility Operator License (Class I & II)
Employment Requirements
Selected candidates must successfully complete:
- Satisfactory completion of a background check
- Medical exam including drug screening
- DMV records checks are required prior to employment. (required prior to employment and annually thereafter)
