Next Level Kidz provides advanced enrichment programs with a combined focus on STEAM classes and Sports training. Next Level Kidz recognized Fort Mill families were in need of programs for kids ages 6+ that provided both high-level education, quality sports training and critical benefits like accessible transportation and safety. It was founded with a goal of simplifying the busy life of the modern family and advancing children’s academic and physical education creating a balanced lifestyle.
We are looking for a high-energy, passion-driven Lead VEX IQ/VEX V5 Robotics Coach to guide our elementary, middle school, and high school teams (grades 4–12) through an exciting, competitive season of building, coding, and teamwork!
Key Responsibilities
- Team Coaching & Curriculum: Lead weekly practice sessions guiding students through the mechanical design, building, and strategic planning of VEX robots.
- Programming Instruction: Assist students in writing and troubleshooting code using VEXcode IQ (Block-based programming and/or Python) for autonomous and driver-controlled challenges.
- Engineering Notebooks: Guide teams on documenting their iterative engineering design process according to official VEX competition rubrics.
- Event & Competition Management: Coach and support teams during local VEX qualifiers, scrimmages, and potential regional championship events.
- Team Culture & Leadership: Model sportsmanship, collaboration, and perseverance, creating a positive environment where every student can succeed.
- Communication: Maintain open communication with parents and Next Level Kidz leadership regarding practice updates, student progress, and competition logistics.
Required Skills & Experience
- Robotics Experience: Prior experience with VEX IQ, VEX V5, FIRST LEGO League (FLL), or similar youth STEM/robotics platforms (as a coach, mentor, or former participant).
- Technical Aptitude: Understanding of basic mechanical concepts (gear ratios, structural stability, leverage, simple machines, etc) and block-based or Python programming.
- Youth Engagement: Strong background in teaching, coaching, or working with children ages 8–17.
- Core Competencies: Strong organization, patience, positive classroom/group management, and team-building skills.
- Availability: Ability to commit to fixed weekday afternoon/evening practices and designated weekend tournament dates throughout the robotics season.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ Years Experience with the VEX IQ / VEX V5 Robotics competition ecosystem.
