You will work with the management team(s) to help move our software-as-a-service platforms toward greater and more rapid in-market success. This means coordinating with internal and external stakeholders on the following product management activities:
- Recommending, documenting, and communicating product/platform vision statements
- Managing product and feature road maps, including version planning.
- Helping with specifications and other documentation.
- Helping develop and improve user interfaces.
- Working with engineers to set individual goals and track progress against them.
- Managing team meetings.
- Coordinating quality assurance and version releases.
- Tracking and reporting on overall project progress and releases.
- Perhaps working with equipment providers/partners on platform integration.
- Other PM responsibilities.
Civicom is a diverse technology company that uniquely combines technology with human services. We are developing new features for two existing platforms and three new ones.
- Hey DAN - an AI-facilitated documentation service for travelling sales forces. We currently process 10K notes per day for some of the world’s largest financial services companies.
- ScribePT - an AI-facilitated documentation service for physical therapists and other healthcare.
- Quillit - an AI-summarizing and reporting tool for Marketing Researchers.
- WelcomeWare - a video platform and kiosk that allows receptionists to work remotely.
- SpanDesk - a Web RTC platform that allows remote team members to interact and see each others' screens as if they were in the same room.
We have a project that will require intense focus for the first six weeks. After that, you would likely work on one of these services for 18-24 months or so, but opportunities may arise to work on other platforms and broaden yourself horizontally and vertically within the same company.
Note: This job requires that you be on site, full-time, in Port Chester, NY. We are willing to assist with relocation for the right candidate.
YOU:
You are goal-oriented, resourceful, and innovative. You love challenges and getting results, and you have something in your background that proves it. You like being a generalist and constantly adding personal skills because it makes you more valuable as an individual and to the company. You can work in a fast-paced, lean environment as a team player and are eager to learn as new challenges arrive. You have the ability to see the big picture, communicate well, and seek to understand how what you are doing fits into the broader commercial strategy. You like the idea of being part of a team that is on the ground floor of things that could become big.
- You have high energy, a positive attitude, and empathy–and these qualities are infectious with internal team members and external stakeholders.
- Experience with technology project/product management is a plus, but ability and attitude are more important than experience.
- Graphics ability is also a plus as it can move projects faster, but we have a lean team of graphic designers to help bring ideas to reality.
- If you can also code, at some level, that is a big plus.
- You may have experience working with customers; as well as translating business goals into technical requirements
- You are eager to learn..
WHY CIVICOM?
Innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, growth, opportunity. The company has expanded from one revenue stream to eight, with 22 brands and 600 employees in five locations around the world. And the innovation pipeline is still full. This happened because service excellence, risk-taking, responsible failure and flexibility are encouraged. Keep in mind that flexibility and fast-paced often means, by definition, unstructured and perhaps chaotic. Don’t apply unless you’re OK with that. Also, a very high portion of earnings goes back into the company to invest in growth and diversification, resulting in almost 20% annual growth for fifteen years through 2022. This leads to many benefits for employees:
- Employees can grow both vertically and horizontally—broadening and elevating their skills—by moving between new and exciting businesses and projects within the same family of companies.
- Compensation increases in the US have outpaced averages.
- Employment security is increased due to diversification away from the risk of having all eggs in one basket.
Good benefits. (Top 10%)
Value-creators. We love creating customer value, which means we get to work with customers who are delighted with what we do for them and consider us partners. This makes for a more rewarding and enjoyable environment.
Sharing with employees. Employees receive a modified profit-sharing bonus each quarter. Also, ten percent of the company stock appreciation is being transferred to employees—not just managers but employees at all levels who support the company and its causes.
OKRs/Clear Goals A disciplined process of Objectives and Key Results supports participatory goal setting and transparent accountability up and down the organization.
Elevated Sense of Purpose:
- We set big goals, refuse to settle for being ordinary, and want people to enjoy the challenge of trying to achieve the goals in the same way we might enjoy challenges like basketball, climbing mountains, chess and so on. This message is continually reinforced via a long list of company customs and disciplines.
- Buy Forward (10% to charity) helps add meaning and purpose in what we do together in our daily work lives. It gives us permission to ask each other to care—to care about customers, to care about the company, to care about each other, and to care about the world.
Feathers: This innovative and authentic charity—our own creation—was inspired by our CEO’s five-day immersion with a severely impoverished family in a Philippines slum. It is about (a) keeping human contact in charity and (b) the undiminished transfer of donations from donor to beneficiary. It's for real, not for show. It also gives our employees in the Philippines an opportunity to be personally involved in a way that is essential—ensuring integrity in the process—but with a nominal time commitment. See www.feathersproject.org
Level 5: Check egos at the door. Mutual respect. Opinions are heard. Collaborative and human.
Hierarchy is unimportant. No job is above or beneath anyone.
Learning: Leaders are hell-bent to learn P&L management, goal-setting, strategy, coaching, and be true “general managers." Responsibility and authority are delegated. "Civicom Grow" encourages learning by teaching—the best way to learn.
Executive comp ratio. An extremely low ratio of senior manager compensation to average means a disproportionate amount of earnings is reinvested back into the company to stimulate growth and opportunity.
Truth. Responsible and constructive criticism is facilitated and encouraged though a quarterly truth partner process with non-optional reminders of its importance, and an anonymous email system with instructions posted in every office space.
Employee Recognition. There is a steady stream of peer-recognition and company awards—leaf and branch awards, annual awards, top-coder, and service awards. Often lengthy employee accolades are set to inspiring music.
Growth through merit. The company is full of inspiring stories of employees who started at the bottom and steadily rose to positions of leadership. This speaks volumes about opportunities for top performers, irrespective of background and pedigree. It is a meritocracy.
Diversity. Leadership is extremely multi-ethnic and disproportionately female which is unusual for a tech company. Our workforce is also unusually diverse in all dimensions.
Customs & Disciplines. See list in the Roots and Advocates booklets.
