About The Division:
Join the Budget & Internal Accounting division as an Accountant! Work involves assisting with processing the multiple payrolls, benefit and reimbursement requests for the state judges and prosecutors administered by the Comptroller's Judiciary Section. Serves as a backup to the Agency Payroll Team using the Time and Labor (TL) and Payroll Modules of the Centralized Accounting Payroll / Personnel System (CAPPS).
Work Hours:
8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday. May occasionally work evenings, weekends, or holidays. Hours may change based on business needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Public Administration.
5 years of experience processing Texas state agency payrolls in the Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System.
5 years of experience processing Texas state agency benefits.
1 year of experience processing payables in the Centralized Accounting Payroll/Personnel System.
1 year of experience monitoring vouchers in the Uniform Statewide Accounting System.
Substitutions
In this role you will:
Creating and verifying payrolls for active and visiting district judges, state prosecutors and certain county attorneys.
Preparation of new hire packages.
Maintaining payroll deductions.
Setting up and maintaining direct deposits.
Maintaining longevity and benefit replacement payments.
Auditing monthly and supplemental payrolls.
Distributing earning statements.
Mailing monthly payroll checks.
Creating and distributing IRS W-2 forms.
Assists in the implementation of all legislative changes related to payroll.
Maintaining the benefits for elected judicial officials.
Serves a liaison between the Comptroller's office and the Employee's Retirement System.
Manage updates to beneficiaries.
Explain coverage options to staff members and new employees.
Resolve issues with providers and pharmacies.
Support employees with TexFlex concerns.
Assist employees in establishing savings plans and working with surviving family members.
Process benefit changes during the annual open enrollment period.
Completes system onboarding of new hires, including maintaining prior state service verifications, sets up and maintains direct deposits, maintains longevity and benefit replacement payments.
Audits on and off cycle payrolls, distributes earning statements, mails monthly payroll deduction checks.
Creates and distributes Internal Revenue Service 941 returns, W-2 forms, 1099-MISC forms and implements all legislative changes related to payroll.
Maintains Judiciary Section files in an orderly manner in compliance with the state's records retention guidelines.
Prepare records for storage at the State Library.
Prepares special reports and projects as needed and performs all other related duties as assigned.
