Deliver high-quality perioperative care in a dynamic outpatient environment where efficiency, patient experience, and clinical excellence intersect. This role places you at the center of UVA Health’s expanding outpatient surgical network, supporting patients through critical pre- and post-anesthesia phases while working alongside highly specialized teams.
As a Pre/Post PACU RN, you will practice at the top of your license across multiple outpatient surgical settings, gaining exposure to varied patient populations, procedural specialties, and care delivery models. The Role:
In this position, you will provide comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing outpatient surgical procedures, managing both pre-operative readiness and post-anesthesia recovery across multiple sites. The environment is fast-paced, patient-centered, and highly collaborative, with a strong emphasis on safety, throughput, and exceptional patient outcomes.
You will work across three distinct outpatient centers, each offering unique clinical exposure:
A typical day includes:
Conducting pre-operative assessments, patient education, and care coordination
Monitoring and managing patients in Phase I and Phase II PACU recovery
Collaborating with anesthesia, surgeons, and interdisciplinary team members
Ensuring safe discharge planning and patient readiness for outpatient recovery
Maintaining high standards for patient experience, quality, and safety metrics
Additional role highlights:
No nights, weekends, or holidays
Minimal call requirement with incentive pay
Flexible scheduling options including 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts (varies by site)
Participation in a shared governance model supporting nursing autonomy and professional practice

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.
Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
The pay range for this role is $39.90 - $53.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
