About the Role
Project Engineer is expected to perform structural design and engineering tasks under supervision, applying fundamental principles of structural analysis and precast/prestressed concrete design. You will work with a high degree of independence, applying your expertise in precast and prestressed concrete design to develop practical, efficient solutions. This includes executing basic load and member calculations per ASCE 7 and designing precast components in accordance with ACI 318 and the PCI Design Handbook, as well as preparing connection designs guided by applicable industry manuals. The Project Engineer will collaborate closely with our engineering, drafting, project management, and manufacturing teams to deliver successful projects from concept through production. This role is designed to build technical competence, uphold quality and safety standards, and contribute to the overall success of Mid-States mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design of precast/prestressed concrete elements (walls, hollow-core slabs, beams, columns, double tees, etc.) in accordance with industry codes and standards.
- Lead the engineering phase of projects in addition to reviewing architectural and structural contract documents to identify design requirements and coordinate engineering responses.
- Prepare engineering calculations, design assumptions, load determinations, and structural details for shop drawing development.
- Collaborate with Senior Engineers, Drafting, Project Management, and Production to translate design intent into manufacturing documentation.
- Respond to design queries, prepare and manage Requests for Information (RFIs), and provide supporting documentation.
- Occasionally participate in plant or project site visits as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis/concentration).
- The ability to obtain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification within 12 months of hire.
- 3+ years of direct experience in structural precast/prestressed concrete design.
- Thorough understanding of ASCE, ACI 318, International Building Code and PCI Design Handbook.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with structural analysis and design software.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
