Skilled Construction Laborer — Renovations, Additions & New Builds
Red Clay Renovation is a growing renovation and construction company handling home remodels, additions, and (soon) new home builds in the Lee, Montgomery, Elmore and Tallapoosa Counties (Alabama). We're looking for a reliable, multi-skilled construction laborer who can work across trades and take real ownership of getting a job done right.
We need someone willing to accomplish all parts of a renovation project from finish work to general labor.
What you'll do:
- Support renovation and restoration projects by performing carpentry, framing, caulking, trim carpentry, and tile and flooring installation
- Paint and prep surfaces, drywall patching
- Install electrical fixtures (ceiling fans, lights) and plumbing fixtures (toilets, faucets)
- Install appliances
- Assemble cabinets and furniture
- Operate power tools and hand tools safely to perform tasks such as cutting, drilling, and fastening materials
- Assist with carpentry and finish work
- Handle demo, debris haul-off, jobsite cleanup, pressure washing and supply runs
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols and inspecting tools and equipment regularly
- General labor and whatever else keeps a project moving

What you need to bring:
- Hands-on experience across several of the tasks above (we'll train on the rest if you've got the right foundation)
- Your own reliable transportation — required
- Your own basic hand tools — required
- Mechanical knowledge related to construction tools and equipment operation
- A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to show up on time, every day
- Ability to lift [50] lbs, work on your feet, and handle the physical demands of a jobsite whether it's an interior or exterior project
Nice to have:
- Experience reading plans or working from a punch list
- Valid driver's license [and clean driving record]
- References from past contractors or homeowners
Compensation & schedule:
- $20.00 - $26.00 per hour, based on experience [or: depending on skill level]
- Full-time, Monday–Friday [8:00am - 4:00pm], willingness to be flexible and also work on weekends if needed
- Pay structure: 1099 / independent contractor

Other Required Tasks (including but not limited to):
- Clearing work areas of brush, trees, and debris prior to construction.
- Erecting temporary structures, such as scaffolding, bracing, or barricades.
- Performing manual demolition of walls, flooring, or small structures using hand and power tools.
- Installing surface protection: Laying down Ram Board, rosin paper, or drop cloths on finished floors and stairs prior to paint, staining or other work.
- Dust containment: Erecting temporary dust barriers (like ZipWall systems) and sealing off doorways or HVAC returns with plastic sheeting.
- Staging setup: Setting up cutting stations, mixing areas, and tool staging zones outside or in designated safe areas (e.g., the garage) to minimize interior mess.
- Loading and unloading construction materials from delivery trucks.
- Tracking inventory of materials and alerting the site manager when supplies are running low.
- Surgical tear-outs: Carefully removing drywall, plaster, or flooring down to the studs or subfloor without damaging underlying plumbing or electrical lines.
- Fixture and finish removal: Detaching baseboards, crown molding, doors, and cabinetry (often keeping them intact for reuse or donation).
- De-nailing: Pulling leftover nails, screws, and staples from exposed framing and subfloors to prep for the carpenters.
- Material staging: Unloading deliveries and carrying heavy materials (drywall sheets, lumber, tile boxes, appliances) up stairs and into the specific rooms where they will be installed.
- Hardware runs: Picking up mid-day material shortages or hardware orders.
- Inventory management: Breaking down cardboard boxes from new fixtures and organizing delivered materials so they don't create a bottleneck on site.
- Prep work: Scraping floors, applying basic primers, or taping seams before the primary drywallers or painters arrive.
- Mixing: Preparing small, continuous batches of thinset, grout, or mud for tile setters and finishers.
- Extra hands: Holding long pieces of trim, drywall, or cabinets in place while the lead carpenter levels and fastens them.
- Drywall Patching: Taping, mudding, and sanding minor drywall damage, old electrical box holes, or dings from the demolition phase.
- Pre-Paint Prep: Caulking seams along trim, baseboards, and built-ins, and filling/sanding nail holes on new woodwork.
- Priming: Applying primer coats to raw drywall, fresh wood trim, or heavily patched areas to prepare for the final finish coats.
- Standard Painting: Executing basic interior painting tasks, including rolling large wall sections and cutting in around ceilings and baseboards.
- Exterior Finishing: Painting or staining exterior elements like fences, decks, or replacement siding planks.
- Blocking and Backing: Installing dimensional lumber blocking between framing studs for future cabinet mounting, grab bars, or heavy fixtures before drywall goes up.
- Simple Framing: Framing non-load-bearing partition walls, building out closets, or framing in bathroom niches.
- Basic Trim Installation: Measuring, cutting, and installing standard baseboards, shoe molding, or simple window and door casings.
- Cabinet & Fixture Assembly: Unboxing and assembling flat-pack cabinetry, shelving units, or vanities to prepare them for final installation by the lead carpenter.
- Hardware Installation: Installing basic interior door hardware (knobs, hinges, strike plates), bathroom towel bars, and basic shelving brackets.
- Siding & Decking Repair: Replacing damaged exterior siding boards, replacing deck planks, or installing basic exterior trim.
- Continuous debris removal: Bagging up plaster, tile, and drywall dust throughout the day and transporting it to the on-site dumpster or trailer.
- Daily site resets: Performing a mandatory end-of-day sweep and vacuum of the active work zone and any pathways used through the home.
- Hazard mitigation: Sweeping for stray nails, screws, and sharp debris, and ensuring tools and cords are safely wrapped up at the end of the shift.
Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
