Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with manual transmission across designated routes, including local and long-haul deliveries
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques, forklifts, or roll-off trucks, ensuring proper securing of cargo such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or hazardous materials
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, optimizing delivery times while complying with DOT (Department of Transportation) and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to identify maintenance needs or safety issues
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, and delivery documentation in compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and logistics teams to coordinate pickups, deliveries, and route adjustments
- Ensure the safe handling of dangerous goods and hazardous materials according to regulations governing hazardous materials transportation
Requirements
- Valid CDL Class A license with a clean driving record
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and freight handling
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks confidently
- Experience with refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, or roll-off trucks preferred
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, and hazardous materials handling standards
- Skilled in manual handling techniques for loading/unloading freight safely
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems for efficient route planning
- Ability to meet physical demands such as lifting heavy loads and performing vehicle inspections
- Valid medical certification for commercial driving as required by federal regulations
